Oh! She's better looking than Kate!
The fuzzy hairs are a bit distracting, but I just cropped them out of view and zoomed on her face.
Beautiful portraits, excellent B&W, and loved the motion blur on the second portrait, giving brilliant soft focus to the freckles on her lovely face.  Their is plenty of room to add exposure similar to what you did with Roxanna's image.  and while this platinum black is a classic, keep experimenting with cooler tones as well as warmer sepia's, they can alter the whole mood and her state of mind.  I believe the latter my prove more powerful.

Beautiful Romeo! beautiful enough for me to comment on  ;)
A little more of dodging & burning on the arms and shoulder.  The biceps area has uneven tones like patches.  And the shoulder drastic transition from dark to bright is too abrupt and can do more with some dodging.  The model needs to look past you and not at you, but even then it still makes the cut.

Well done, and thank you for sharing.

Am having a newfound respect and admiration for my HC 300 lens. I've saved it from the auction block simply because I wanted a long lens for my X1D. I've never had much faith in it in the past, but somehow I seem to be able to get better results with my X1D than I ever could with my old H4D. Undoubtably due to being able to better focus with the X1D. Here's a shot I took today of an unknown flowering plant. (If you can identify this plant, I'd appreciate it.)

This is the original "office" at Old Car City in White, Georgia. They've moved the entrance to a larger "barn-type" building now. The same rustic look, only much larger in size. The right side of this image was extremely dark, compared to the left side. Took some heavy processing to even-out the luminosity. Fortunately, Hasselblad files, in general, can withstand some pretty strong corrections with no side affects. Awesome as to how much detail there was in the back area.

Great Detail and sharpness. A hugely important factor to remember is not to get too carried away with highlight suppression and capping those white & black points without re-introducing and adding back some Exposure by 1/3,  1/2 or +1 stop depending on how severe the edit was.
It changed completely when I rotated to the right... became a whole new picture!

Water color accentuated by polarizing filter. Not my usual style, but It's fun to experiment. Also 10 stop ND filter for that long-exposure look:

I should have shot this with the 45mm wide open, to have a more out of focus back ground.

Maine woods near Ocean Point, ME. If you have ever photographed in the woods in Maine, it is all about the mosquitoes but they actually were not that bad. They seem to be really bad early in the morning.  This was the X1D with a 65. Fabulous lens I might add.

The only thing that may tempt me away from the XCD 45mm is the zoom, as it will cover it - albeit in a bigger package.

Look forward to seeing how the zoom pans out.

Night time low light shots at 1/30th and ISO 3200 works so well with this sensor.

Took the Blad to the beach today for it's first real workout. Absolutely loving it. Unfortunately the 45 has to go back as it has a LOT of dirt in it. in some light it works amazingly well but not all the time. Needs to be perfect so on the lookout for another now. Will miss using the camera for a week or 2 :(

There is just something about 35/50/90mm views in particular. I wonder if the colours would be different slightly if the min. pp was in Phocus? I find that Phocus is good enough for pp and I love the colours that Phocus allows and the correction tools.

Hi Stephen,
It has been edited to taste but I'm certain you can get the same colors in Phocus too. Afterall LR/ACR supposedly honors the HNCS color management when the 'camera standard' profile is selected, or at least it's my understanding.
At the moment Phocus tends to crash if I add a couple of layers, which acts as a mild deterrent when working on snapshots like this one. For more serious pics I'll certainly insist a bit more (moiré handling is superb for instance, and L* RGB can be useful).
Best,
Frederic

I gave up on Adobe software years ago and have been using various packages since. The last ones Capture One which will gladly use TIF files, which have been through Phocus and exported, but not not RAW 3FR files. Affinity Photo, PortraitProStudio, Exposure V5 and Topaz - all open .fff files.

My last tulip of 2020. Again, following some set-up parameters I learned from Karl Taylor Education. The tulip is lying on a small sheet of black plexiglas. Main light is camera left firing directly across the set thru a large scrim. A second light (with 7" reflector) is behind the set, aimed high at the back white wall, resulting in its reflection in the plexiglas highlighting the flower.

This image is from Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas, NV.   The image is a stack of 5 shots using the X1D's Focus Bracketing Mode, far to near, manual focus starting at infinity.  Initial processing was done in Phocus and Lightroom, then imported into Helicon Focus.  I also tried it with Auto-Blend in Photoshop and Helicon did a better job with the distant part of the image.  It was also much faster.

First attempt at this with the X1D + XCD 30mm and was very happy with the results.

45P with canon close up lens fitted wide open manual closest focus distance with and without closeup lens. Used macro rocking back and forth to get sharp focus on the central (tiny) flower. Minimal processing in Phocus and Lightroom. Whilst this is no macro, the resultant closer focussing distance gives a pleasing result.

These were taken in a very old groceries shop in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This place is near 100 years old. Always runned by the same family.

Yiyo, the first owner passed away many year ago, and now Danilo, his great-grandson (not pictured here) took over the place, finding lots of lost treasurers, like old spirits, wines and alcoholic beverages, most of them are not produced the same way they were produced many many years ago, recipes changed. Some bottles have been stored there for more than 60 years.

Now during the pandemic lockdown, Yiyo is recovering its original magic. The shop will remain as is. Yiyo is part of Buenos Aires history. Danilo has teamed up with a very good friend of mine (bartender serving drink picture) and both are creating the next Yiyo, new but old menu, and new but old drinks and coctails, making this place a must if you ever visit Buenos Aires.

All pictures shot handheld with X1D II + 4/45p. Corrected in Phocus 3.5.4.

Hope you like the story and the pictures. Have a great day!

Martin

Received my "new to me" Hasselblad X1DII 50c today with my first lens, the XCD 45P

Camera is very impressive, the menu interface is the best I have seen in Leica, Canon, Sony, Fuji, etc...it is really made for the user...

Title: Re: X1D in the Gallery
Post by: tenmangu81 on January 03, 2023, 04:27:13 AM
Thanks !! I used 1600 ISO, f/4.8, 1/50s.

BUT, the analog-like grain has been added after I removed the high ISO noise... which was not that strong, as a matter of fact, and looked a bit like film grain.

Very nice indeed. Is this combo (X2D with 135mm and teleconverter) something you would contemplate using on safari? I'm curious since most folks believe you need a really long lens for safaris but I'm thinking with IBIS and a 100MP resolution, it might be possible to magnify and crop in post processing to get the same result.

My first post on this forum. I'm amazed by the sharpness and details the X2D 100C produces, just a shame that it looks like I'll be waiting a while yet for my XCD 90V or XCD 55V, whichever one arrives first I think I'll buy. I sold all of my Leica M gear, Leica SL gear and various medium format cameras and lenses including a beautiful boxed 503 C/W with various lenses and equipment. I now have the X2D with the 38V, 30mm 3.5 and 120mm 3.5 Macro lenses. This image was shot wide open on the 38V at ƒ2.5, even at this open aperture the scene is stunningly sharp and the colours just pop, even on an overcast day. Post processing was through Lightroom Classic, where I reduced the highlights and boosted the shadows, I also adjusted Dehaze by 15%, and Clarity by 5%. I also cropped the image slightly as I physically couldn't get any closer (without needing a waterproof housing and a wetsuit lol).

One with the X2D, 135 + 1.7. Dove in tree. ISO 200, F8, 1/304, 230mm. Cropped to Square and edited in Phocus.

Experimenting a little with Topaz Gigapixel AI, what do people think? Good or bad or not so bad?
The last one is just the head cropped in Preview and exported as full jpg from the GigapixelAi version. I focussed on the eye at F8, and see at that extreme magnification not much else is in focus but still looks good to me.

Long-time forum lurker and hobbyist here.  While I use my X1D (4116) primarily for documenting my friends and family members, I thought it's time I share a few of my photos.  I have much to learn from the amazing talent from others on this site, so thank you for indulging me.  I used my XCD 4/21 for the B&W Utah Mountain View and the view from the Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center in Colorado.  The XCD 45 was used while hiking in the Garden of the Gods park in Colorado Springs.

X2D with 35-75mm

I'm new to the camera and Phocus, so I'm still getting my head around the technology and learning curve.

The quality of the files from the camera is excellent, and the zoom lens is very impressive at all focal lengths.
