Good evening all,

I currently have Lightroom Classic (LrC) but am thinking of migrating to Lightroom Desktop (I think that is what it is generally referred as but apologies if I am wrong).

After reading the help pages I am a little confused at whether Lr will be suitable as it uploads all raw files to the cloud. This means that in addition to Lr I will need to purchase additional storage (particularly given the relatively large file sizes of 3f files).

I was just wondering if anyone could share any advice.

Many thanks.

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I don't understand quite well.
For me, there are two Lightroom versions. The first one, for desktops, is Lightroom Classic. You don't need to upload your images to the cloud. The second one is Lightroom (CC), which is mostly developed for mobile devices, specifically for iPads and similar devices.
Accordingly, Lightroom desktop and Lightroom Classic are the same for me.

Hi Robert,

I am looking to migrate to what my Adobe account refers to 'Lightroom' (Lr) from 'Lightroom Classic (LrC). It is my understanding that Lr was originally more for mobile editing but it has come on a long way and there is a desktop version. A few webinars I have watched recently seem to be using it and have (perhaps wrongly) referred to it as Lightroom Desktop. I like the idea of having a complete back-up in the cloud - although with .fff files this means a lot of storage is required. Hence my post.

Many thanks.

Hi Paul,

Thanks, I understand. I've used Lightroom (Lr) on my desktop (which is actually a MacBook Pro) just to try it, and it works well, and the UI is rather user-friendly. I think Lr is better suited for use on iPads or mobile devices, and my choice is to develop with Lr Classic on my MacBook Pro rather than Lr. And, yes, I think you would need to store your images in the cloud. With all the consequences when your Internet connection is not that good.... But YMMV.
