Hello,

I'm looking for recommendations of inspiring books on photography books, primarily books by photographers, about photographers, on the history of photography and/or interesting books on the technical side of the discipline to read during the last bit of the summer. Works that has made an impression on people that make them want to recommend the book(s) to others (me) - it would be nice if Hasselblad cameras are a part of the books, but I'm interested in more general books too.

Huge thanks in advance!

One of my favorite books is the collected work by Helmut Newton. The book itself is amazing physically (somewhat 30kg) and is filled with pictures. Nothing really to read. But if you, like me. Like to photograph portraits and bodies. It is very inspirational. I bought the book many many years ago before Mr Newton died and the book is signed by him. So I treasure this book very much.

I think the book has been reprinted in a much smaller version that doesn't cost a fortune. The picture is from the web of the large version that I have.

Wow!! I think that's the largest book I've ever seen - what a project! :) I'll try and get the reprinted version. Thank you very much for the recommendation.

Judging by your name it sounds like you reside in Sweden. If you would like to see the book before buying a copy. Feel free to reach out.

I'll try and get the mini-sumo :) Out of curiosity, what does the original, big one cost? Is it seen as an investment object?

Ah, see now that you have already answered the question. Got the forum thread read in the wrong order.

Thank you for the kind offer! I'm Danish (Copenhagen) though :) But I might be able to get it from the Royal Library - limited to reading it on their location.

Taschen still has the large version listed on their website. And list it at a price of 25.000 dollars (20.000 Euros). The small reprinted version sells for around 1500 SEK (140 Euros) at Adlibris. I guess you can order from them from Denmark. So that is a bargain in my mind. And that book weighs 6kg. So its not a small book either.

I just read that the No 1 of the original 35 kg book was sold for 314.000 Euros. But that one had been signed by 200 of the celebs photographed in the book. I can't remember what I bought mine for. But I also bought the stand from Philippe Starck that the book lies on.
