Can Hassy H5D-40 use a film Back

Not according to the user manual.
I hadn't a film back when I had an H5D-40, so never tested.
I does work on the H6D, though.

Yes, you can use a film magazine as shown in the user manual. The manual linked below lists "Film capability (via optional film magazine)" in the list of features for all H5D models on page 4 and has a section with instructions for using the film magazine starting with page 94 thru 101.

Rare H5X and H6X bodies are H film backs as well as third party digital backs compatible.

That's super strange... the user manual I kept from when I used a H5D-40 said the contrary (incompatible...) !!

The one that I linked to is the most recent user manual. It's possible that the original firmware didn't support film magazines and that changed along the way. I'm not sure, but things do change fast and frequently with anything and everything digital it seems.
