I'd like to use the XCD45p with an extension tube to scan 6x6cm film negatives.
Which extension tube do I need: 20mm or 48mm to achieve this in the best way?

I have the 20 mm, just tested it on my X2D, should be the same on X1D.

It focuses frames from 6 x 8 cm, to 8 x 10.6 cm (approximately). So the 20 mm is what you need.
I am sure the 40 mm will not focus the full 6 by 6.

I have a Fotodiox 48 mm extension tube that I use for 24x36 film with my XCD45P. It covers that format perfectly. So, the 20mm should be the right one for 6x6.

OK that means most likely I need both: 20mm and 48mm extension. Will buy both and figure it out.

I do not think you need the 40 mm, both messages above conclude that you need the 20mm.

I've now received the 48mm extension. It's perfect for the 24x36mm FF film.
Waiting now for the 20mm extension to be delivered.
