Phocus V2.7.6 is really misbehaving (even downloaded a fresh copy) ... but it is constantly crashing when used tethered or when attempting an import - can anyone advise please ?

2.7.6? Why such an old version? There was a version a while back that was quite flaky (Big red X on screen when captures failed) but I forget which version... Latest one is pretty solid on my iMac.

Hello Nick,

Many thanks for your kind reply.

Ixpress V96c Tethered to an iMac 27 ... been rock solid for ages and then it just started playing up (now beginning to suspect that its after the latest security update for Yosemite).

Why such an old version ? ...

Unfortunately Hasselblad Phocus (unlike the excellently designed Capture One Pro) is not compatible with all Hasselblad digital backs.

I love the image quality of the German made Carl Zeiss lenses, I do consider them superior.

Have now reinstalled both V2.6.6 and V2.7.6

I can now import images from the image bank (which is fine as a temporary work around) as they will now go straight into Capture One Pro.

Oddly, when I launch Hasselblad Phocus it wants registering each and every time and then it starts crashing when tethered to image bank ...

Kind Regards,
Dicky

Hi Dicky, understood! It's probably asking for registration each time because that preference is not being written when you crash. To fix that issue, register that camera then quite flexcolor straight away, this should save the preference and get rid of the recurring window.

As for the crashing issue, I take it you can shoot happily UN-thethered? That points to either a firewire or a computer issue. To trouble shoot I would look at different cables, try another computer and check that there is sufficient space on the destination drive.

Hope that helps!

Hello again Nick,

Thank you once again, for your kind reply and much appreciated help and expertise.

Have tried every conceivable tethered cable option but to no avail.

Oddly, each time Phocus V2.7.6 launches on an iMac 27 running OSX 10.10.5 - it insists on being registered - there is no way around it, the moment it captures tethered ... it crashes and the attached message shows.

Have loads of unused disc space on this machine. Can shoot tethered into our old Mac G5 running Flexcolor with no worries.

The only thing left to tryout is another thunderbolt to FW800 connector, as I am beginning to suspect that this may be the cause ?

Kind regards,

Dicky

So even if you register then quit before trying to shoot it asks you to register again next time?  And yes the Thunderbolt/FW adaptor might well be the problem. Before you try a new one I'd suggest a complete removal of flexcolor.

The app itself, the preferences and anything flexcolour related in library and user/library, and then a fresh install.

Hi Dicky, did I understand correctly that you are able to import files from the IB into C1 ?

Hello Nick,

Phocus V2.7.6 and V2.6.6 have always required registration on launch each and every time - it always has on this iMac.

Not sure if its a possible bug in the software, or it may possibly have something to do with the iMac Fusion Drive.

Flexcolor will not install into this iMac (as the download from Hasselblad appears to be damaged or incomplete on attempting to open).

Have uninstalled and reinstalled ... all to no avail, will try the preferences and library/user delete one more time. Next thing is to try a new Apple thunderbolt adapter.

Many thanks again Nick for your kind help and much appreciated help and expertise.

Hello Salomons,

Hope all well with you & Co in Switzerland.

Been shooting (either tethered or untethered) then selecting final image choices in Phocus (to apply the CF lens correction tool) then exporting the Tiffs into Capture One Pro.

Find that Capture One Pro is a superior RAW processing app to Phocus (and then finally import images into Adobe Photoshop to ' tart-up ') before completing the post-production.

As for importing directly from Image Bank to Capture One Pro (the 3F format is propriety Hasselblad) can imagine that as competitor Phase One will not consider this to be an option.

Kind regards,

Dicky

Hello Nick,

Many thanks again for your much appreciated advice and expertise - had to download AppCleaner to get to the plist files so I could reinstall.

8) Managed to get Flexcolor V4.8.13 to work perfectly when shooting tethered :) Its rock solid on iMac 27 running on OSX 10.10.5 (so we now know its not the iMac Thunderbolt Adapter).

As for Phocus V2.7.6 its operational behaviour is now different since the last OS X 10.10.5 security update there are kernel panics (in crash log) when attempting to shoot tethered with image bank.

Meanwhile back to shooting jewellery ...

Kind regards,

Dicky

In case anyone wasn't aware, in the finder hit the "go" menu, press and hold "option" and you'll get access to the library where you can delete all sorts of stuff! Be careful what you delete though!

Kernel panics usually relate to hardware, it might be worth trouble shooting by disconneting any other external devices...
