Apple just seemed to have dropped FW in their new laptop lines FW800 to TB adapters on their way but not yet there. I know my next MFDB will not have a FW port. Either TB or USB3 preferably both....

Indeed - but they claim that an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor will be coming in July - might be cheaper than the Sonnet version which Ali kindly told us about - it costs about £200 in the UK!  It would be great if this new adaptor worked with the MBA which despite slower performance is a good deal lighter when hiking in the field!
