50~110 lens hood "stuck"

It is really a weird piece. The lens hood on the 50~110 zoom have never worked smoothly.
Now it is stuck into place and will not go out.
Any suggestions?

The first generation lens hoods were a pain and would get stuck when reversed on. I've had to remove one just using force..

To avoid the issue make sure the hood goes on exactly parallel to the lens.

With a long thin screwdriver you can unscrew the bayonet from the shade then it comes off easily. If the bayonet is damaged you can a new one.

This has happened to me as well. The screws in the hood holding the mount on can loosen over time, and even fall out without becoming immediately apparent. They should definitely be checked periodically.
