4Res>.tif via Flexcolor > .dng via ACR4. What would I lose?

Dear List,

I am processing single and four shot files in Flexcolor and saving them as 223Mb Tiffs.

I then usually do a few final tweaks in ACR.

I have noticed that saving then as a DNG reduces the file to about 145Mb, a useful saving of HD space.

Just wondering if I'm losing anything this way?

Thanks.

Denis

Hi Denis
When you save as DNG you are losing the superior colours that Flexcolour produces plus the DAC corrections. in my opionion there's no need to save out 16 bit tiffs unless you think it likely that you will be performing major tone corrections on the file in the future or if the file contains fine gradients which have a tendency to band in 8 bit.

Would be nice though if Phocus could save compressed TIFFs - as an example, an 8 bit image reduces from 114MB to 36MB. Slightly bizzarely a 16 bit gets bigger (both LZW compression in photoshop).

Maybe something fro the Phocus wishlist Nick..?
