Great. Thanks for your comment on the 2/200. The shot from the Otus 55 looks fantastic. Did you crop out the corners though?

I tried my Zeiss 2/135 (the classic version) on the X1D the other day. It has very minimal vignetting. I'm going take some shots with it this weekend.

Thanks!

Alex,

yes - the Otus shots were "6x6" at 6200x6200 Pixel.

I've tried a few other lenses tonight. Light is not good right now, and I have to give it additional tests, but my old Nikon 85mm F1.4 "D" might be a real gem on the X1D.....I will get some of my older Nikon's tomorrow (200mm and 300mm F4's) and see if I can extend my reach on the cheap....

The Sigma 135mm F1.8 is fantastic as well, but the Nikon mount version has an electrical diapraghm as well as does the 105mm F1.4, so its only "wide open" or nothing.....but holy shit is this lens sharp even wide open. I need to get one of my girls to sit still for me over the weekend to test it some more.

It's a journey, but a very interesting one. The 85mm 1.4D w/ the Novoflex adapter feels like it was made for the X1D....kind of like the Leica M240 w/ 50mm scaled up a little. Same kind of "gorgeous" if you know what I mean. Now I need to see some results in Phocus over the weekend.

Catch 22 is it doesn't help me much from the focal length / FoV since I have the 90mm Hasselblad XCD lens...I wanted to get longer, but the native 120mm XCD had so many bad reports that got me on the adapter journey in the first place.

We'll see what the weekend brings. I'll report back.

Well, looks like I hit another snafu with the X1D in electronic shutter mode. Yesterday I did a few more test with different lenses, and when uploading the pictures I noticed one file was missing in the JPEG folder structure...taking a closer look I found several JPEGs being defect, in a very specific pattern (see below). I can't necessarily reproduce the effect, and therefore don't understand which conditions lead to it, but it's real. The RAWs are fine BTW...which mostly rules out an issue with the card itself I think.

Reminds me of an old analog camera with a defect film transport. I guess I call it my "HB heritage bug". Nice touch saving it in the digitial world I guess.

But seriously: has anybody else experienced this? I've never seen anything like it. Not sure if this is just a bug in the JPEG engine (I hit another one with green artifacts in certain light conditions in the past), or if this is related to the e-Shutter and readout speeds...I certainly have never seen this with the mechanical shutter at all. From a pattern a few JPEGs are good, followed by 1 or 2 being messed up like you see below. One file was dropped alltogether.

Thoughts?

I saw something similar when I was doing a manual pano stitch and fired shutter in succession too quickly. The on-camera image review showed these "film transport" defects.

My setting was to save RAW only, and it turns out the 3f files were ok. I'm thinking something related to the in-camera JPG rendering.

Since this incident, I now time my shots with about 2 seconds in between. Haven't seen it since (could be luck).

Galoubet, Alex,

thanks for your replies.....so I'm not alone.

The quintessence here is that I have to further SLOW DOWN with the X1D when using the eShutter....good to know.
