Already out of stock.
Online buying was active a few hours after the announcement and all stuff sold out at the end of the first day ;)
Hardly surprised really. I am not sure about the viewfinder being so useful with my lenses 30/65/135, it seems to be mainly for wider angle lenses. Obviously would be OK with the 30mm. Seems expensive for use with just one lens, unless of course that is the lens most used.
I changed my mind on the hand-grip I now feel that would be worth it.
This is of course having gut feeling having never touched all 3 items, but looking forward to seeing them all.
Concur on the viewfinder

The OVF has a wide field of view and markings for XCD 21, 30 and 45mm and a center cross for an autofocus point.
Yes I saw that but now you copying it here makes me wonder "and a center cross for an autofocus point." does that make it usable with other than wide-angle lenses?

Define usable :-).
You do not have the frame lines for longer lenses, so framing is more difficult. Maybe one could add overlays for additional focal lengths.
Thanks for your useful post, now I understand the viewfinder option a lot better.
This type of viewfinder without parallax correction make no sense with longer lenses.
Yes useless to me then except with the 30mm.
The optical viewfinder's center cross makes it possible to target AF for any lens simply: press the X button (or equivalent on the smart grip) to be sure the focus area is in the center of the field, then put the center cross on your intended subject, then half press the shutter release. Focus is now locked in.
Framing is a completely different matter. Framing with any tunnel-optical viewfinder system is always a matter of approximation. The optical viewfinder includes frames for 21, 30, and 45mm lenses at normal subject distances. For longer lenses, you have to imagine how much of the frame is lost (or 'cropped out') unless you mask the viewfinder (certainly possible to do). For more critical circumstances (closer distances, longer lenses, precise framing) you'd do well to just use the LCD rather than the optical finder.
I bought my 907x with 21 and 45P lenses. The grip and optical viewfinder make it into a handy, eye-level street shooter for not-so-critical framing circumstances. I can also fit an Leica Elmarit-R 28mm f/2.8 lens to it (sans lens hood) for similar results, and focus entirely by scale with that if I don't want to use the LCD. If I fit the XCD 80mm lens, I can use the optical viewfinder and just imagine the smaller field of view inside the 45mm frame lines, using AF and the center cross as above.
With any lens I fit to the 907x, if I want critical focusing and critical framing accuracy, I use the LCD.

Thank you ramarren (I seem to recall that name from the Leica forum).......
"With any lens I fit to the 907x, if I want critical focusing and critical framing accuracy, I use the LCD" - I am pleased to hear that maybe I don't need the optical viewfinder after all. I am interested in the Control Grip. Can you send me a closeup of the grip controls and with it fitted to the camera. please? I would appreciate that.
Oh my this morning I visited the shop and one of the special versions was in. So I had a good look, what a gorgeous piece of kit that is. I love the design and the operation of it.
I have pre-ordered the chrome version after handling it for a few minutes I will probably sell the X1D II to fund it.
regards,
Stephen
For those who have been waiting, as of this morning the Hasselblad Store has both the viewfinder and the grip available to purchase. Deliveries are expected for mid-August for the viewfinder and late August for the grip.

Yes, I'm on the Leica forum as well.
I'm speaking of the use cases by extrapolating from other cameras with a similar setup I've used. My own grip and viewfinder are on order ... Hopefully, deliveries will happen soon. You can read my statements from the point of view of "That's how I'll use these things once they arrive..." :)
Close-up photos of the 907x fitted with the grip and viewfinder accessories, finished for the Special Edition, are available on the Camera West website:

The standard edition will be chrome and black in keeping with the body finish.
BTW: Looking at the viewfinder assembly, rear view photo, it looks to me as if the optical viewfinder itself sits in a standard camera accessory shoe on top of the adapter bracket. If that's the case, then it should be possible to simply pop the viewfinder itself out and use another viewfinder with an appropriate field of view for other lenses. At which point, I could nip out the 21-45 optical viewfinder and replace it with one of my existing optical accessory viewfinders for the 80mm lens. That's a bit more convenient than masking, and a bit more precise than just estimating by eye.
It seems that for most things, there's always a way to get what I want out of this equipment with a little thought and effort. That, to me, is the hallmark of good fundamental design. I appreciate good fundamental design much more than a bazillion features... :D
best,
G
"That, to me, is the hallmark of good fundamental design. I appreciate good fundamental design much more than a bazillion features... " - I could not agree more on that!
