Hello everyone,
I'm wondering when the firmware update for the Hasselblad X2D will be released that will enable the multi-shot functions? Since I often make painting reproductions, this would be an important feature.
Karl Taylor made the update palatable to us with a video on November 7, 2024.

4 image multi is available via tethered to Phocus now. That's aka pixel shift. There's a 6 shot multi under development.
It would be nice to get pixel shift in camera though.
As you suggested, nearly four months later, no release on the horizon, and a new camera in development for this year. That's why I have not bought the X2D yet. Maybe they will include the function in the next camera, maybe without the need to be tethered... or maybe that has nothing to do with this at all. Who knows? Except Karl Taylor of course...
I bet they have one developer for the firmware and one for the desktop Phocus itself; otherwise, I can't explain such "speed" of development to be honest.

Since reproductions of paintings in the studio are actually always done with a cable connection to the computer, I don't need the function on the camera to check the result straight away. The performance of the Hasselblad X2D is completely sufficient for me, which is why I don't want to wait for the next camera. Hopefully there will be a Phokus Desktop update soon.

Because it's currently being beta tested prior to release to the general public.
Still no new firmware available for download on the webpage.
BUT ... over on reddit, two X2D buyers report that their cameras came with v4.1.0 firmware on them.
Did either of them have the 6 shot multishot option?

They say so, yes. But they don't seem to be overly technically proficient. Basically a random N=2 sample from Hasselblad newcomers. In my opinion, there's a good chance but not yet confirmed at this point.

Good software like good cooking takes time. I wrote code back when I worked. It is really easy, right up until you start writing it. Then it gets really difficult. The code for the cameras is most likely written in a more powerful, AKA lower level, language for efficiency and compactness. These languages are really ugly. This is the stuff that the wizards write. Try it sometime. ;o)
Can't be too hard. It's been out since November 2024. Clearly in the YouTube video the photographer involved thought it would be released at the same time as the 4 shot. And it appears in the video to work fine.
Also look at what Magic Lantern did for Canon firmware. That could not have that hard a hack it was free.
Hasselblad also has a lot of extra programming support from DJI. DJI writes some very good code.

Thanks, if you find you indeed have an option for '6S'/'6 Shot' (an alternative to the 'Single' shot option), I'd appreciate you posting a screengrab 200% magnification detail of the resulting image from a 3+ second long exposure made with the camera sitting on a stable surface.

If they don't will you wait for the next incarnation ?
Good point. In the video where the 6 shot was shown the photographer said he had a beta version of Phocus which have the support for 4 and 6 shot multishot.

Someone here on the forum said he tried 4-shot MS with Phocus for Windows, and said it worked.
IF THAT IS TRUE, then there's a good chance that 6-shot MS will work too. Simply because Phocus for Windows hasn't been updated since already before the v4.0.0 firmware was conceived. Actually it's not even been updated for the v3.x.x firmware tree (liveview). To me this observation speaks a lot about how the various software/firmware modules interact. 6-shot MS exists on the H6D, and is supported. I'd fully expect the workflow to become eligible once the camera reports 6-shot capabilities over the wire.
Off-camera optimizations and corrections are a whole other can of worms though.
The 4 shot works with 3.7.5 on a PC. I tried it on a older surface pro (4 yrs old). It ran, very slow, and did produce 4 Multishot images. I did have some corruption on a few of the files. But I assumed it was due to the older surface pro.

No. I just got my X2D from B&H last week and it came with 4.1.0 installed.
