Happily photographing this afternoon when suddenly 6 exposures in a row resulted in a completely white file with no detail whatsoever. I was using my HC 80mm with the adapter. The camera was working precisely as it should - I could change aperture and EV, live view worked etc and the sound of the shutter was perfectly normal but the files were completely white - not showing blinkies but just white (so maybe not over exposure). I then noticed that the battery was in the red. Changing to a fresh battery the camera seems to be working as expected. Looking at the files in Lightroom they all showed the correct exposure and aperture, but there was nothing there.
I hope that this is just a consequence of an almost empty battery, but strangely the battery had enough power to make the camera functional, trigger the shutter and change aperture and EV. I presume that it just didn't have enough power to write the file to the card. I have seen cameras warning of a low battery charge and then shutting down - and I think I have seen this with the X1D but can't be certain.
Anyone experienced this or got any ideas as to what is going on?
Could be the shutter was open longer than expected?

Yes, its true that insufficient power can cause sketchy (technical term) camera system operation but the results stated are unusual. One, if this occurs again, please contact techsupport@hasselbladbron.com. Two, consider sending a couple of RAW files to us for review. Finally, immediately note the scenario that produced such results.
