Title: UV-C Ray
Post by: Dario Bologna on May 16, 2020, 10:08:32 AM
Hi guys!
looking to the next production during Covid phase 3 (in italy)... is it dangerous use the UV-C ray on the camera?
(Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a disinfection method)

Hi Dario,

UV-C light (lamp) does not harm your camera. UV-C light is also part of natural sunlight, so it's pretty much like leaving the camera in the sun. I use a UV-C light for cleaning in my workshop. But like direct sunlight into the lens can damage the sensor, I would limit direct UV-C light to the sensor - just to be precocious.

I personally would be concerned about UVC light degrading the small amount of plastic on top of the camera and the eyecup over time.

May be worth the tradeoff for your production work though.
