Title: New Lease of life for my old MacPro 1,1
Post by: Jonno101 on February 11, 2011, 04:59:03 AM
Thought I'd share with you all my new upgrades as I was finding Phocus unusable on my Macpro 1,1 (2006).

2 main things: upgrade to 10.6 and change my old GeForce 7300 GT, which kept on getting warnings everytime phocus started up.

So bought this lot:
ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB Graphics card - £125

4GB Crucial memory - £99 (Mac now has 9GB total)

OCZ 2.5" Vertex 2 SATA II Solid State Drive (SSD) - 120 GB - £160

TOTAL - £384 Plus VAT.

My machine now processes & saves files in Phocus 2.5.5 in 17 seconds (NO DAC). And can flick between frames easily whereas before it was so slow and caused lots of problems. Am a happy camper as saved my self £2000 plus on a new mac??

Next trick is to upgrade my processors to 8 core, but thats gonna cost another £300 and getting close to point were I might just have purchased a brand new macpro?

Hope this helps anyone in same boat.
Cheers
