The Leica S system has some lenses with central shutter (named "CS"), too.

X1D/X2D Cameras / Nikon AF Assist
Last post by pb - May 17, 2024, 08:17:08 PM
Good morning all,

A quick question - can any advise whether the AF assist on the Nikon SB-700 Speedlight works on the X2D?

Many thanks.

Kind regards,

Paul

Thanks Etienne,

I am coming to the same conclusion as you. However, Hasselblad has asked for more info which I have provided. I will get back to you when I hear back from them.

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Reading your post I did the same, i.e. look at the EVF with the lens cap on. (I never did that in my 6 months of X2D ownership.) I too can see two "dead on" pixels, white in my case. I never noticed them on any of my pictures, though.

To be honest I never gave dead pixels a thought up to now, and probably will keep it that way... I'd expect they are probably easily removed in post if they become annoying?  (Note: I am totally ignorant about post processing techniques beyond the very basic.)

Thanks,
Regards,
Etienne

I don't see there being a global shutter for a 44x33 100 MPIX sensor in the foreseeable future.

I hope that Hasselblad will stick with the leaf shutter. That makes the camera unique. The only alternatives with a leaf shutter are PhaseOne, Leica Q (1, 2, 3) and the Fuji X100 (something). The PhaseOne is in a different price range and the Q and X100 have no option to change lenses.

I asked Hasselblad about it but got an evasive answer.

Kind regards,

Same here! I asked B&H and Hasselblad. HB gave evasive answer, but they responded after B&H told me to return it, which I did.
I just received a replacement (three months later) and it has a similar issue, although less oil, and blades seem to be flatter (the first lens had space between shutter blades).

I also got 28P recently and shutter is pristine clean there too.

Could you upload a photo of your shutter blades?

I am happy with the present speed for landscape but as I am doing a lot of focus stacking 15 images in close to 15 seconds makes it quite challenging in any outdoor use.
I think the real next significant step would be a stacked BSI sensor which would reduce read out speed to a level that the electronic shutter would also work with not only static objects and therefore allow more choices with adapted lenses (or allow Hasselblad to release lighter lenses without shutter). Almost all top FF cameras have or will have this sensor type making now or soon standard shutters obsolete (and in contrast to global shutter with no penalty in image quality like DR). But there is no such development published for MF.
