Title: X2D and Phocus Live View Issue?
Post by: Mads Bjerke on March 29, 2024, 09:14:43 AM
Hello,

I am new to the X2D and Phocus and need some guidance.

When shooting in the studio I have Exposure Simulation turned OFF for manual mode.
Using the following settings: f/8 - 1/350s - ISO 64
When shooting un-tethered I can see the model as expected in the EVF and rear screen.
All is fine.

When tethering to Phocus 3.7.6 live view is dark. It behaves as if Exposure Simulation is turned ON.
As a result I cannot see anything.

Both the EVF and rear screen is displaying the same as live view - a dark image due to the camera exposure settings.

If I disconnect the USB cable it returns to normal (Exposure Simulation OFF).

Any insights on this?

When live video is running in Phocus there is a little check box at the top that says "Auto Exposure". Check this box and see if that fixes the issue.

Thanks you, that does it. Perfect.

Same issue when shooting to iPad. Can't find anything to do same as Phocus.

For those using (at least) v 3.8, it seems to have moved that Auto Exposure control down to the lower right of the screen, signified by the letter A.

Ah yes, thanks Steve - I was referring to the older versions of Phocus (3.6.4 in my case) that use the old method of live video when I mentioned the check box at the top. I still use this version because it has certain advantages.

Well from Phocus 3.7 onwards the live video method changed for X1D II cameras, which is what I use, as explained in the read me. It now uses a live video stream generated by the camera and bypasses any software adjustments such as exposure, curve, saturation etc in Phocus. This results in a flat image and I prefer the look of the old method. I guess it's a matter of opinion about which method is best, because the new method has advantages too, such as the ability to capture while live video is running (although it stops live video first), and a larger focus area when zoomed in to check focus.

Also for me when capturing images with 3.7 onwards they take longer to appear on the screen compared to 3.6.4 so I still prefer that.
