X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: "Drive to infinity not sup...

I would find it actually very useful for night photography because X series cameras render the scene completely black in the preview below a certain level of ambient light at night.

Could anybody confirm this feature is really absent on the X1D II?

I can confirm that "drive to infitiy" works on my X2D with all the new lenses (XCD 25V, XCD 28P, XCD 38V, XCD 55V, and XCD 90V). It also works with XCD 21 (make sure that firmware 0.6.1 is installed). I don't have any other XCD lenses. It does not work with my HC 3,2/150 N (firmware 19.1.0) and it also doesn't work with my HC 4,5/300 (firmware 17.0.0).

I actuallay use this function quite a lot, mainly for night photography. It's always good when you don't have to focus manually to infinity, the results are always excellent.

X1D/X2D Cameras / 2 Blue Pixels...
Last post by pb - May 11, 2024, 09:57:30 PM
Good morning all,

I have just purchased the XD2 and noticed, when I look at the back screen or through the EVF with the lens cap on, that there are 2 blue pixels on the sensor. I calibrated once this morning but they remain.

Any thoughts/advice?

Many thanks.

Kind regards,

Paul

X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: X2D tethering problems
Last post by osroubek - May 11, 2024, 09:47:58 AM
My X2D works fine when tethered to my computer using the supplied Hasselblad cable or a Tether Tools USBc to USBc cable. The camera needs to be on when I connect to the computer. A message pops up very quickly on the X2D asking to choose 'Mass storage' or 'Skip'. I press skip to continue. In Phocus under the Capture tab, Job Info section, there is a choice for destination. Maybe it was not chosen to go to the correct place? Not sure after that...

X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: X2D tethering problems
Last post by dpdigital - May 11, 2024, 09:04:16 AM
I have had my X2D for about 2 months. I photograph original art, cultural heritage projects and headshots. I tether the camera into Phocus. The TetherTools cable does not work so I bought a IQ cable and it works fine when I use the shutter from Phocus. However, when I use the shutter button on the camera the image goes nowhere! So I bought a Trebleet USB4/TB3 cable. It works, but not from the camera shutter button. Also, the 1 meter cable provided with the camera will not work from the camera shutter button. Anyone else having a problem like this. This problem also makes shooting headshots a pain. I have to use my Canon for headshots.

X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: New XCD 25V F/2.5 lens?
Last post by o2mpx - May 11, 2024, 06:47:12 AM
Perhaps just wishful thinking, but given the new V lenses are lighter weight, perhaps HB will work on newer teles and zoom(s) to replace/augment current 120/135/35-75 lenses.

Given how good the legacy lenses are that's been written for a number of years, HB has a self inflicted challenge as to how to offer additional differentiated value with new lenses when the legacy range is known to be excellent.

Leica seems to have chosen to market 2 lines for their SL series, customers can choose the APO's and non-APO's, zooms and primes, made in Germany, Portugal and Japan, plus reengineered from Sigmas or Panasonic(?).

HB isn't clear if all will end up being V and P ranges, as none of these new lenses are overwhelmingly heads and shoulders above the legacy so that customers both new and existing, will switch. Given people say the original manufacturer of legacy lenses are not in the picture, likely when supplies run out, there'll be only the newer V and P lenses.

Quote from: JoeC on April 24, 2024, 02:16:59 AMLike my friend Howard, I've been trying to predict Hasselblad's next steps since the announcement of the X1D. It's a slow and usually frustrating process. But here are my thoughts.

The main limitation of the X2D is speed. By any measure, the camera is slow. The AF is slow, the frame rate is slow, card writing is slow... In addition, there are several "features" that were unexplainably missing from the X2D even though they were present on the X1D II - remote cable release port, interface for the GPS accessory, basic video.

So my prediction is that there will be an X2D II, well before any X3D appears. Given the imminent introduction of the GFX 100S II, Hasselblad needs to make an announcement by the fall and have cameras in users hands by late 2024 - early 2025. The new camera will have:

1. A new faster processor
2. Faster AF and Eye AF (and none of the 35mm AF fluff like animal, insect, and vehicle AF)
3. Remote cable release port (allowing Hasselblad to sell the already developed and manufactured and expensive cable release)
4. Hot shoe interface for the GPS accessory (allowing Hasselblad to sell the already developed and manufactured and expensive GPS accessory)
5. AF-C that can keep up with subject movement when shooting portraits in the studio or in the field
6. Faster frame rate when shooting in continuous mode
7. Faster writing to internal memory or a card (or both)
8. Higher resolution EVF
9. Same form factor as the current X2D
10. Same price as the current X2D

The new camera won't have a joystick. As Howard said, that seems to be counter to Hasselblad's design philosophy for the X-series. Auto ISO in Manual mode also seems to be a no-no. The X2D II will use the same 100MP sensor that has become popular in crop-sensor medium format cameras. The volume of production for that sensor, chip yield, and quality control makes it the obvious choice for the new X camera. The professional customers who shoot with the X-series are likely not screaming for more megapixels. A pixel-shift solution might be in the offing for the art repro market. And the camera's new processor would struggle with more megapixels.

OK, that's enough prognostication for one day. Thanks for listening.

Joe

I feel the things like AF-C and Eye AF its just a matter of coding and not new hardware, maybe I am naif but I hope wee shall see those with a new firmware update :)

Won't AF-C or Eye-AF require much more computation power, which current HW may or may not support?

When the Leica Sl2 was launched it didn't have face and eye Af, those fictions were added later via firmware, hopefully it will be the same for the X2D.
