I just received a notification from UPS that a parcel is on its way from RRS.  That means that RRS is now shipping the new L-bracket for the X2D.

FoleyAMG

Yup, received the same message from RRS...package shipped...looks like delivery tomorrow...

Have decided to go in a different direction.

Ships in July so we'll see how it works out. I have the other sizes and really like them.

I like the look of the Atoll X but the X2D isn't on the compatible camera list

UPDATE: the maker has confirmed by email that it is compatible with the X2D. However, as it's shipped from the US those of us in the UK will be hit hard by British Customs & Excise. My experience buying other products is that these can sometimes as much as double the cost! I need to wait until there's a UK distributor.

I think it ships from Hong Kong. Probably won't help you though. For here, it's under the tax threshold.

There are camera shops in Oz who stock it so maybe they'll become available for you locally. Have you looked to see if the originals are available in the UK?

X2D definitely supported. There's photos of it in the description, even. I've been in email contact about it since the first two came out. The medium size will also take some, but not all the XCD lenses. The larger one will work with all the XCD lenses, no problems.

Similar rotating mounts are also made by SmallRig, Ulanzi and Nisi. I don't know which are suitable for the Hasselblad X series cameras though.

All three ripped off the silence corner idea, so I won't support them. Not that I think any of them yet make a large size. They will though if they think they can steal someone else's idea and income.

Looks good. Can you confirm the weight?

Gordon

FoleyAMG

RRS claims the weight of the L Bracket to be 5.15oz and that seems to be very accurate weighing here.  It feels solid on the camera...I like it and what I was looking for...

Does it have a wrench slot? I always liked that feature of RRS l-plates. The wrench is always with you.

sarkleshark

Yes for wrench slot . On third image above you can see two square silver like magnets just below the rear screen that hold  a wrench.

For me I'm guessing that the one that works best that will keep the lens/image dead centre (despite which orientation) and maintain a solid support of the camera without giving chance for possible further vibrations.

If the design has been ripped off by others but performs better then I'll go with the other (hopefully not as I don't want to be spending lots in the quest for the right support (as I did with  finding one for the H system)).

With Atoll Model D mount sacrificing usage of Lens Control Ring since the parameters could be achieved by other controls. Max. len diameter for the Atoll Model D is 75mm which fits snugly for the new XCD V lenses. To me, it is so much faster & easier to rotate camera from horizontal to vertical position & vis versa as compared to using L-bracket.

MGrayson

I change camera orientation about twice a day at most, so I'm more concerned with stability than convenience. The best design I've seen is the RRS plate for the Fuji GFX 100. The side piece also screws onto the strap lug, giving it two points of contact with the camera. Tripod support is a "weakest link" situation, after all. I suppose that the ring design could have as good stiffness as an L-bracket, but I'm having a hard time seeing it. I wonder if thecentercolumn will start measuring these things...
