Title: New 45mm lens delivered today
Post by: Michael H. Cothran on April 27, 2017, 12:51:34 PM
Just got my replacement 45mm lens for the one I returned to B&H 3 weeks ago, which just about needed a pipe wrench to mount & dismount. This one is much better - along the same lines as my 30 & 90.
Went for a walk along my daily pathway just now, X1D & 45 in tow - tied to a Black Rapid strap. Man, it's been so long since I've had a camera for walking about & hand holding. This is great!! I snapped a few shots, mostly pretty wide open. Here's one taken @ f4, focused on the main tree, so other parts will be a bit soft.
Aperture Priority, AF choosing a focus point on the tree. 1/1250 sec @ f4, ISO 100. Basic LR - adjust WB with color checker passport custom camera profile for X1D, adjusted highlights, shadows, white point & black point, added a bit of sharpness masking off sky.
Added a slight curve in CS6 using Luminosity as my blending mode.

View large to see better detail in tree.

what is the reason that you shoot this kind of shot at f4 and 1/1250sec? Instead maybe around f/8 and 1/300. Just curious what is the thinking, no critique.

You're exactly right about shooting this normally at a smaller f-stop. But I wanted to see how this lens performs at wide apertures, thus I chose f4.
