I was able to buy three used Bay 60 filters from B&H Photo for $115 last week (Red, Green, and Deep Yellow). They arrived today and are in perfect shape.

X1D/X2D Cameras / x2D Bulb Mode
Last post by scottfwalter - May 25, 2024, 03:00:44 PM
Since there is no cable release for the X2D I thought I would try to use bulb or time mode from the Phocus 2 app.

However, while in manual mode with shutter set to T or B the shutter button in the app is disabled.  It's enabled for any other shutter speed.

Is there something else I need to do to enable it or is it not supported with B or T?

If it's not support rated what do you do for long exposures to prevent camera shake?

Quote from: flash on May 25, 2024, 09:22:31 AMI've been using magnetic filters for a couple of years. It's the first thing I do with a new lens. Store the multi-million-dollar cap and put on a magnetic ring and cap.

So far, I've had zero issues with any lens of any brand pulling off filters or caps. They do vary a bit. SO another cap might not be quite as *grippy*. You can also use a fingernail to pry the cap off rather than grip and pull. That puts a bit less force on the lens.

I can definitely try to fingernail / "pivot" filter off instead of directly pulling on it. But at any rate, if I do pull on it, is this kind of action harmful to the lens?

If it's a really good tripod the IS will work against you. If the tripod has even slight movement, then the IS may help. You'll need to experiment. Most shooters aren't using an AS Cube head and three series legs so there's some compromise. Then there's wind, cars, people walking by, long lens support, etc.

When I'm tripod mounted, I just take one of each. IS on and then off.

I just switched to a magnetic filter system, and if I need to remove or change filters, I often have to pull on it with a fair bit of force since the magnetic attraction is quite strong. It's definitely a different force than the screw-on filters I used previously.

And when I try to remove the filters when the camera is powered off, I noticed I can often pull out the front element of the lens a fair bit (because they are external focusing) when removing the filter.

Basically the magnets are so strong that if I pull on the filter to remove it, it also pulls on and eventually "extends" the focusing elements of the lens. Does this damage the lens?

Every camera I've owned with either IBIS or lens stabilization has recommended turning stabilization OFF when on a tripod. It seems the stabilization may "hunt" on it's own if the camera is not moving.  On a monopod I leave stabilization active but always off when on a tripod.

I have been shooting the 907x 50 for about 4 years, virtually all outside in the PNW.  I always assume ZERO splash and mist protection so either keep the camera under my coat or in a backpack if raining or misting at all.
If it's forecast for rain, I take the Leica S (006) which is "safe" as long as I'm not standing under a waterfall.
