X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: Peli Case - Carry On

If you take a Peli case on as hand luggage it will be scrutinised more than a normal bag. So likely to be weighed. You will be questioned if it is for professional use (for which you would need a carnet). If possible I'd put the Peli case inside another bag.

The Hasselblad X1D field kit case was based on a Peli iM2200 Storm Case which would be a good size for your requirements.

X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: New XCD 25V F/2.5 lens?

My copy of the XCD 25/2.5V has distinct coma on the left side. It doesn't show up (much) in daytime landscape pictures unless there is a bright background. For astro, it would be a pain.I first thought it was field curvature, but that is not the case. My copy also has some focus shift. If I want sharp infinity, I have to do it manually or focus stopped down. It is very sharp across the frame at f/8 - f/11.

The problem with frame averaging (a great technique to replace ND filters and improve IQ) is that there are gaps partly caused by the slow sensor readout speeds.
Global shutter would be ideal for that application.
In theory, a camera could start reading again before the full readout has occurred. It is unclear whether Olympus and Phase One do that.
Still, even with gaps, the technique is useful but you must match the shutter speed to the subject movements so that the gaps do not matter.

The lenses / Re: XH Converter 0,8
Last post by ashdown - May 21, 2024, 09:55:42 PM
It works very well with the lenses I have on the X1D (28, 50ii, 80, 100, 150) it is quite heavy though. I was hoping the XH 0.8 with the 80mm would be a good walk around alternative to the XCD 65mm but it was a little too heavy for the job. The same with the HC 50mm ii, it may be optically comparible with and XCD 45 or 38 but the handling is very different. The XH 0.8 does however work very well with the HTC tilt-shift adapter.

Quote from: Ralf on May 17, 2024, 07:32:44 PMThe only alternatives with a leaf shutter are PhaseOne, Leica Q (1, 2, 3) and the Fuji X100 (something).

The Leica S system has some lenses with central shutter (named "CS"), too.

OK, that's right. But unfortunately the Leica S system has been discontinued.

I really liked the concept of the S3.

No it hasn't. There's confirmation from Leica that a S4 will come. We just don't know if it'll be a mirrorless camera that takes the same lenses or needs an adaptor for the current glass. It's likely a couple of years away though.

Gordon

The only confirmation I have seen so far was a question from CEO Kaufmann asking "what comes after 3?". not sure if this a confirmation. Do you have other official statements?

Besides, it was my impression that they already had quite some internal dispute over the S3. which led the camera to be heavily delayed, and that is no wonder, since the S system was not financially successful, at least when I look at the tiny number of members of the Facebook group. And wasn't there another rumour of only 300 S3 sold?  We will see if we ever see an S4.

X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: New XCD 25V F/2.5 lens?
Last post by Larsb - May 21, 2024, 05:48:19 PM
I managed to purchase a XCD 25v f/2.5 lens last week and have taken a few test shots with it (although haven't yet used it for a photo session).  Some initial impressions with respect to sharpness are that it is very sharp in the centre, with just a tiny bit of fall-off towards the edges, and a little bit less sharpness in the corners, but overall, with my copy at least, it seems to be very sharp (better than my 28p, although I thought that was quite sharp as well, but the 25v seems better at the edges).  I also compared some shots at f/2.5 with the same at f/8, and I was surprised how little difference there is in sharpness when wide open.

Not a comprehensive review (there are a few articles on the internet that definitely go into more detail), but I was happy with the lens and happy to confirm that I did not receive a "soft" copy.

The lens is beautifully made, but (as one would expect from the pictures), it is considerably larger than the 28p.  The shutter also makes a more noticeable click than my other Hasselblad lenses (28p, 45p and 38v), but still not what I would call loud.

Overall, I'm happy with this lens and looking forward to using it for some "proper" photos soon :-)
