This is a good enough thread for 907X photos. Lookig forward to see.

Yes, please post photos at somewhere around 1600 pixels on the long dimension maximum. All that larger posts do is slow down the system and make it difficult to see the photograph.
I have a healthy number of 907x images posted to this album on Flickr.com: https://www.flickr.com/gp/gdgphoto/6X8t0G

Pictures have to be processed in Hasselblad Phocus that has optical corrections for Zeiss V-lenses and removes aberrations.

I haven't used them too much other than for testing so far. They work reasonably well for focal lengths that I don't have in either XCD or V system lenses, and for macro/copy work (I've probably used the Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm the most of the Leica lenses on the 907x body). The XCD 45 and 21 really do cover a huge amount of what I've been shooting with this camera, and switching in the Planar 80 and Makro-Planar 120 from the V system covers most of the rest of the ground for me.
I have a good number of photos that I haven't quite finished just yet. I'll get to some of them tomorrow. :)
G
Thanks, oh yes I had not thought of that. Macro/copy work - makes sense as those 'R' macro lenses were v. good.

David, really a nice image and I noticed you used 24mm Elmarit. Did it cover the full sensor? Whatever but the result seems exciting.
Hi Bashir,
This was shot in square crop in the 907x. The 24 Elmar will not cover the entire sensor; the 90mm Summicron seems to cover the sensor however the vignetting is very strong so again I shot that in square crop and the image is usable.
Here is a test shot with the 24 Elmar with no crop in the 907x.

The Leitz 135mm Tele-Elmar M sat literally for years on my shelf as I believed it was not a sharp lens when all along it was my inability to focus it well on the M9 that was the problem. As demonstrated in this series the lens is sharp even at >200% crop...boy I'm glad I didn't give this lens away a couple of years ago.
Very nice!
People always told me the same about my ancient Hektor 135/4.5 too, and I found similarly with a TTL focusing camera that it is a remarkably good performer. I wouldn't put it in competition with the XCD 135, of course, but for a lens that cost me all of $175, the quality is outstanding.
G
Hi G,
I haven't had a chance to try an XCD 135 but hope will get a chance to test it sooner or later.
I think I payed about the same for the tele-Elmar, super good deal looking back on it.
If you get a chance post some images taken with your M lenses on the "Hasselblad with an "M" on Flickr.

Teddy Bear Sunflowers in the studio
My first attempt at using the 907x and 45p lens with a flash. Shot with a Novatron 600v triggered by Pocket Wizard unit from the CFVii 50c back.
Finally I was able to get out with the 907x for another walk the other day, between wildfires, smokey air, and extreme heat events...
I fitted up the Hasselblad 907x with the grip, the optical viewfinder, the XCD 21mm lens, and a neck strap, and then went for a two-three mile walk around the neighborhood with it to see how it fared as a "walk and shoot" camera.
Working ultra wide field of view always takes me some time to settle into, my brain and eyes can't swap between radically wide and other fields of view so quickly as it can with medium wide to normal to modest telephoto. I decided to concentrate on the surface textures of the streets and sidewalks, utilizing the incredible dynamic range and detail capabilities of this camera.

My assessment: The grip and OVF add substantially to the bulk of the 907x if not so much to the overall weight, particularly with this lens (which is not small...). It proves to be remarkably handy, nonetheless, and easy to hold steadily and get good, sharp images with, whether using the LCD for best critical focus or riding the extreme DoF provided by f/11 with this very short focal length lens. The control grip's options make using manual focus with AF-D spot focus on demand easy, and as long as you take the time to get a feel for what the OVF parallax is, the workflow is fluid and comfortable.
The lens performance, the quality of the raw .3FR files, and all that are just delightful. I rendered this set with Lightroom Classic and the adjustments from the defaults in all cases were very very minimal. :D
enjoy!

Hi G,
Nice work with the 21mm.
Good to hear the grip balances well and doesn't add too much weight.
Why "Lightroom" v "Phocus" for your processing? Just curious about your workflow.
Thank you

Regards the rendering tools:
It was purely a matter of practical needs ... I'm fairly proficient at kicking things around in LR based on 14 years of using it and I needed to have four to six photos ready for a workshop meeting in short order. I can previsualize what I want out of LR very easily and get a set of six like that done in about ten-fifteen minutes.
I'm a beginner in Phocus and, while it is not particularly difficult to learn and use, there are lots of things about the end-to-end rendering workflow that I haven't worked out just yet. I didn't have the time to work through that learning process and deliver the goods I needed.

Santa Clara is one of the older cities in Santa Clara Valley. Every so often you turn a corner and run into an older house, sometimes those houses might be more than a hundred years old. I don't know when this one was built, but it was a while ago and the house is on a corner across from a local historical house built in the late 1800s, so I'm presuming that it might be around the same age.

Indeed. I've heard a lot of stuff about what "no one can do" but I just go ahead and try it anyway. I usually manage to get something out of it. :)
I tested my Voigtländer 10mm as well as a few Leica M and R system wides (Super-Elmer-R 15, Elmarit-R 19, Elmarit-R 28, Color Skopar 28) ... The 10mm is the most successful of these adapted lenses: even though it has lots of hard vignetting that you have to crop out, there's still enough more coverage to make the XCD 21 seem like a modest tele and it's sharp right to the (cropped) corners. The R15 and R19, due to vignetting and falloff, pose no real advantage over the XCD 21, either 28 had enough corner softness and fall off that I'd only use them in a square crop. The most successful adaptations I've tried so far are with the Macro-Elmarit-R 60, Macro-Elmar-R 100, Summicron-R 90, and Elmer-R 180 (with and without 2x tele converter): minimal vignetting and fall off, all good on the square crop and at least acceptable on the full frame. I haven't tried the Elmarit-R 135, Summarit-M 75, M-Rokkor 90. The Summicron-M 50, Summilux-R 50 and Summicron-R 50 all work reasonably well, but why since the XCD 45P works so much better in most circumstances?
All my Hasselblad V system lenses (50, 80, 120 Macro, 150) work beautifully, of course.
Most of my photos with the 907x thus far have been made with the 45P, and a lesser number with the 21. I really don't need much beyond another native lens in the 80 to 120 mm range to feel like I have everything I want for it (the Planar 80 when adapted presents a wonderful FoV). :)

PS: I am still testing this 907x/CFV II just to see what it does and how it feels. This was taken with the 907x and 45P

Still waiting for my 45p. What's your experience with this little guy so far?
I gotta tell ya I was concerned about the f4 and it being a slow lens but the whole 907x package is very good and if I need a stop or two I would be inclined to bump up the ISO.
I am waiting on a day where it is a little warmer and I am going to wash the old Boxster and take it out down the road and do some shots and experiment with the 45P a bit in some different lighting conditions. It is a pretty sharp lens and it has the feel of a 35mm on my M camera. I do like that FOV so I am pretty comfortable with the 45P. I am going start shooting some portraits with this gear as soon as I get more comfortable with it.
Nice work Meerec and Gary.
Gary, I was concerned with slow lenses as well but the high ISO performance of the CVFii 50c is very good, amazing compared to my old CCD back of a few years ago. The slow lenses don't bother me when I can get usable images at ISO 2000 and up.

Sailronin,
You and the mushrooms. You have a fascination with the fungi. 👍🏼
I have no hesitation shooting at ISO 6400. Has set up Auto ISO to this point and don't even think about ISO when shooting — I just think of f stop and shutter speed. And composition. Like the FOV of the 80 which I've been shooting with albeit it's the HC 80 lens. Will buy the XCD 1.9/80 lens most likely. Waiting for the XCD 45p which will replace the huge HC 50 II soon. My Leica SL2 has been sleeping now for two weeks while I've been shooting 907X. Love it so far.

I've found the 45P to be an excellent lens, probably more than 75% of the photos I've made with the 907x have been made with it. In some moments, I might have preferred the 'standard' XCD 45 ... I think the all-servo focus on the standard model lens is probably a little better for some uses and a little more responsive than the P's more traditional servo-with-helicoid. But that's splitting hairs. The light weight and compactness of the 45P is great and suits 'walking around' use with the 907x or X1D series beautifully, and there's little other than excellence to report out of the lens' imaging performance.

I like the 45p. Suites me fine. Once I shoot something worth printing I will have a better idea of my likes. I haven't had a chance to do a close comparison to my V lenses, which I should do. I also don't have a frame of reference to compare to other XCD lenses because I only own a 45p. So far don't have any complaints. Using this 907x system is like using the old V system. It is slow photography. You have to take your time and get the equipment to work for you and your purpose.
Nice machine.

The 45P is a great lens, compact, light and fast focusing (for medium format). It's a super "walk around" lens for the 907.

...How's 45p?
[I'm curious, as I'm still waiting for mine, such shortages ...]
I find it quite a nice lens: light, compact, and excellent rendering.
When I was ordering my 907x Special Edition, I saw a standard XCD 45mm f/3.5 for sale second hand and thought I'd buy that, talked to the guy selling it, and he agreed to hold it for me. As it happened, just a couple of weeks later the 45P was released, which new was priced $400 less than what I was going to pay for the used XCD 45. After a good bit of thinking about it, and discussing the situation with the guy I'd already agreed to buy the standard 45 from, he figured he'd keep the standard lens and I went for the 45P.
I don't regret it at all, however I do believe the standard XCD 45 might be a superior choice in *some* circumstances ... for instance, particularly when using tethering. The big difference isn't really the size or weight, or rendering qualities; it's the nature of the focusing mechanism. The standard 45 has the same 'all servo, by wire' focusing mechanism of the rest of the XCD lineup; the 45P has a mechanical focusing helicoid with servo assist and drive in AF use. This makes the 45P a bit more precise to use manually when you're wandering around using the camera, but I suspect that, like my XCD21, when I'm focusing manually with tethered operation the 'all servo, by wire' mechanism of the standard model might prove smoother and more precise.
Doesn't matter much. I went for the 45P and it has returned a lot of very fine photographs for me. They look every bit as nice as the photograph samples I've seen from the XCD 45. So it's a toss up, and both sides of the coin are good. :)

They're too large. I often forget that for this server, one has to keep the maximum pixel dimension down around 1024 pixels. I'll correct the post, if I can still edit it.

It is up to the server, not the operating system or the browser. Images that are beyond a certain size presented by this BBS server are not scaled; they are on other servers, which is why I usually post 1600 to 3000 pixel images on them with no problem. On this server, the scaling operation is not enabled.
I've replaced the larger images with 1024 max images now, they should present properly.

Not jumping into theory. I have Mac mini 2019 edition with Apple Thunderbolt 27" display, iPad Pro 12.1", iPad Pro 11", and iPhone 11 Pro. All running latest Safari version; macOS 10.15.7, iPadOS 14.2 on both iPads, iOS 14.2 on iPhone. (
Note: Results in other browser environments may differ.) Displaying photos from Page 9 of this thread:
- iPhone :: Regardless of orientation, some scrolling is required on each image.
- iPad Pro 12.1" :: 1024 pixel wide image require no scrolling in landscape orientation, scrolling required in portrait orientation.
- iPad Pro 11" :: 1024 pixel wide image require no scrolling in landscape orientation, scrolling required in portrait orientation.
- Mac mini :: option-click hasselbladdigitalforum display window green button to obtain provided default window dimensions, then 1024 pixel wide image requires scrolling.
Go to GetDPI forum on macOS, where I have the same images posted with 1600 pixel wide images on "Fun with the Hasselblad 907x" at https://www.getdpi.com/forum/index.php?threads/fun-with-the-hasselblad-907x.68158/page-24 (https://www.getdpi.com/forum/index.php?threads/fun-with-the-hasselblad-907x.68158/page-24), set the default window size provided by the server the same way, and all the 1600 pixel wide images are scaled to the default window dimensions and require no scrolling.
Note: The default window dimensions provided by the GetDPI server are actually about 100-120 pixels narrower than the default window dimensions provided by the hasselbladdigitalforum server.
Go to the same GetDPI forum page on either iPad and all the same photos are scaled to fit within the window without scrolling, either orientation. Go to the same GetDPI forum page on the iPhone and all the same photos are scaled to fit within the window without scrolling, either orientation.
Conclusion to First Order Approximation: The server determines the default sizing of the browser window on each platform and the scaling of the photos posted within that display space is also controlled by the server. GetDPI's server has enabled scalable, semi-intelligent display scaling. Hasselblad Digital Forum's server has not.

I usually go for long tonal scales and subdued color palettes, but I made this exposure — it just called to me for a harder-edged, more explosive rendering technique. So I remembered the Kodalith images done in the 1970s and thought, I wonder if it might work...

Interesting, David. Bits of that last image seem doubled, other bits not. Were you using the eshutter?

Hi G,
No, it was the "in lens" shutter but slow speed with vibration to give an impressionist feel to the foggy scene.
It's their season...

I decided that yesterday was a "walk and shoot" day with the Hasselblad 500CM. So I fitted the ancient Sonnar 150mm f/4 and the CFVII 50c digital back, stuffed my PD Travel Tripod into a shoulder bag and put a neck strap on the camera, and headed out for a hour and a half walk around the neighborhood.
Coming up on the end of the walk, I stopped at the cafe to grab a cup of coffee to have with my lunch and walked over to the stone bench near the fountain by the cafe. The sky was a clear pale blue, a bit of mist up there, but just barely visible was the quarter Moon. "Hmm, I wonder how big that will image onto the medium format digital sensor with this 150mm lens...?"
So I stuck the camera onto the tripod, set the lens to infinity and f/5.6 (or f/8...?) and the shutter to about 1/125 (1/250 ..?) and snapped a photo using my cable release. Using some post-processing to make the Moon as visible as possible smashed the pale blue to nearly black ...

I saw this lovely little Lotus Elise on my walk the other day and snapped a front-top-down photo of it ... I had a wide lens and didn't really like the other views of the car with the wide lens.
So I saw it again the other day when I was walking with the Sonnar 150mm lens and took the opportunity.

Hi G and Dave. Nice shots of the Lotus and the scenic shot. I am amazed as how well the Hassy 503 CW and an Older Film lens renders so well with the Back. Stunning
Thank you. The Hassy/Zeiss glass is wonderful. When designed and manufactured they were the best in the world and still are among the best out there 50 years later.

Thank you! Honestly, I expected my V system lenses to work well ... but I am still pretty delighted with just how well!
The Hasselblad V system was the top of the hill to many for a reason, I guess! :D
(I just expanded my V system by another small increment: I acquired a mint A16 back. This makes it easier to use both film and digital backs together in the same session since swapping the backs from digital to film on the 500CM with a given lens nets just a little wider FoV with film and the same format proportions.)

Hello all,
I just got the 907X and snapped this shot with the 45p. :)
My left-sided grip set up for waist level shooting with the 907x is completed. I wandered about the condo the other day with the XCD 21 (and later the XCD 45P) testing it with longish exposure times (1/10 second or so) and the resulting improvements in camera stability are very pleasing.

Not really a part of any set, this "door in an archway" came to my attention as I was walking back home after walking for two hours. I was tired, the light and the door looked very interesting, and I did everything wrong: didn't focus accurately, left the lens stopped down as it had been when shooting earlier, when the sun was much higher in the sky, and all that.
The lack of camera motion in the blurred details is obvious to my eye only when I examine the original exposure in detail at full 100% display mode. That says to me that my custom grip works properly ... being able to achieve that kind of stability with a 90mm lens at a half second exposure says I'm able to hold the camera very still.
When I scanned through the photos I'd made that day, this exposure popped out at me as being unique and different, pleasing in a completely different way. The lack of fine detail suggesting form and shape rather than articulating texture, the light was just right, and monochrome rendering was all that was needed.

Available light coming into the kitchen, boring task of being a kitchen hand ...
On Wednesday evenings, my routine for some months now has been to go to the Japan town district in San Jose and pick up takeout Mexican food for dinner or eat in the outdoor dining area when that's been available (and it's warm enough!). Every time I've been there are the sun went down and the lights came up, I've said to myself, "I've got to get down here with a camera..."
So last Wednesday, I fitted the 907X with the XCD 21mm lens and drove down just before sunset. Well, I thought it would be just before sunset, but I was delayed and the sun had already set ... I was going to be testing out the custom grip I rigged up for the camera, but thankfully I had my PD Travel Tripod with me. :D
I only had time for a shortish walk, about a half hour or so, but I can see I need to go do this a few more times. Here are ten photos, all with the 21mm lens at about ISO 1600 and about f/5.6-f/6.8 ... I hope you enjoy them!

Not technically 907x, but I used my 907x back on the 500CM for this one. :)
I decided to run a roll of film through the A16 back I acquired for my Hasselblad 500CM and, on a lark, I figured I'd carry the digital back (CFVII 50c) as well and trade off between them for a few photos illustrating the differences.
I'm only about half way through the roll of film so I'll finish that up another day, but of course I looked at the photos made on the digital back immediately. This one appealed to me...

Look like a painting !! Plateau de Valensole ?
Valensole 2, the sun is hidden behind the tree trunk, the sun beam was very restricted by a hole in the clouds (strong spot backlight), this lighting situation lasted only 2 or 3 minutes.
Valensole 1, foregroung is lighted by a very powerfull led battery flashlight (one of my light painting tools)
both pictures taken with two stacked graduated gray filters to darken the sky.
Technical problem was a very strong wind that made focus stacking impossible so I had to be at f:11-f:16 and 1/200s or shorter what let me use ISO 3200 !
As I guessed having to use high ISO I took the 907X that manages noise better than my X1D mark 1 (one of the very first Hasselblad demo bodies)

Me with the 907X in the lavender fields
The XCD 65 lens arrived two days ago and I was eager to go out for a walk with it and make a few photos, see how it performed 'in the field' ...
I configured the camera with my cobbled up, left-side grip and went out on a walk with it yesterday. I made a couple of dozen exposures, getting the feel of the XCD 65 lens. It's not much bigger than the 45P lens, a little shorter than the 90mm, but it's a heavier than either, I can feel the weight of the lens elements as it focuses. The camera as configured proves a bit bulky but comfortable to carry with the strap across my body, and it's quick to pick up and make a casual photo with.
I stopped in a cafe to get some lunch and a drink of water ... warm out and I'd been walking for about 2 miles or so. I connected up my iPhone to the 907x to review the photos in Phocus Mobile 2 ... a bit more screen real estate to play with ... and was diddling about with the camera control features when I saw the table across from me with an older man and his grandson. They were deep in conversation. I made the exposure and quickly cropped away about 40% of it, then took it around to show them on the iPhone. They were very pleasant, had been discussing the young man's school work—he's a college student. I emailed the photo to them on the spot. I later re-rendered the photo at home in Lightroom Classic with the same crop and a bit of modest cleanup to the lighting. I didn't even bother looking at noise reduction as I like the feel of the lightly grainy appearance, barely visible at this resolution.

Just a few from a few days ago..... 30mm Lens.
How is this possible with a current 30mm wide angle ?
Having a view that large of horseshoe bend I have to go with a super wide angle !
It is a stitch of about 5 vertical shots, with the 30mm lens.

I just received my "new to me" 135XCD with the 1.7x converter and did a test shot at the hummingbird feeder. The focus point is at the yellow "grill" so the bird is not supersharp but I'll well pleased for a teleconverter shot.
hummingbirds will never be sharp at 1/2000s 😉
I appreciate the 135 + converter for it's nearby macro feature, it's for me the most versatile lens in the X system:
- big aperture
- great sharpness
- dual focal length without quality loss
- close focus with converter
Hi,
Yes, I wanted the wing blur but the focus point is about an inch in front of his eyes so not quite what I was after.
The 135 seems great so far, glad the TC comes with the tripod mount as it balances perfectly.
Best regards,
Dave

Thanks

Hi Tenmangu81, Fotodiox makes both 24 and 48mm extension tubes for the Hasselblad X system. The tubes are fully automatic, all normal lens functions (focus and aperture) work perfectly.
I purchased mine from Adorama but I'm sure any store that sells Fotodiox can order them if they don't stock them regularly.
Good shooting!
Thanks ! I'll have a look.

I've been using the 907x mostly as a copy camera in recent weeks/months ... capturing a vast lot of my old photo prints and new Polaroid prints to digital. It does a great job!
G
Thank you G.
I was wondering why it seems I'm the only one posting recent work. I've used Leica S with a light box to copy old 4x5 negatives (B&W) and then reverse the curve in SilverEfx Pro to make them into positives. Sure it will work just as well with the 907x.

Thanks!
I had Alfa Romeo Spiders for years, my brother had the GT Veloce and another friend had the GT Junior 1300. The Lancia Fulvia Coupe and the Alfa Romeo GT Junior are pretty similar in power, size, and weight, but are very different driving experiences—and both delightful! There were some wonderful lightweight sporty coupes in that era: to my eye, these were two of the most desirable.
Alfa Romeos were just much more available (and less expensive) than the Lancias or I'd have had a Fulvia a long long time ago! Very happy to have it now...

Fulvia Follies ... ongoing
I'm getting my Lancia Fulvia Coupe ready for a complete interior overhaul. I pulled it out into the church parking lot to make some "before" photos of the interior ... haven't processed those yet ... but got annoyed—for the last time!—with all the stickers on the windows.
I removed them. It looks a lot cleaner to my eye.

Quite interesting to me as I am contemplating to use a 90mm for Macro as I am hoping/waiting for a lighter XCD-V macro lens. I was reading that lenses with internal focusing work less good with extension tubes but better with close-up lenses (especially achromatic ones). That was definitely true for the Leica Apo Macro-Elmarit 100/2.8 I had years ago and they sold a closeup lens (Elpro) for 1:1 -1:2). But your spider looks good. Did you ever try a achromatic closeup lens (e.g. Raynox)?

Hi, I've never liked putting additional lenses/glass in front of a good lens as they tend to degrade the image. You're adding an additional air/glass interface even if the additional lens is top quality. An extension tube has no elements so there is no degradation of the image quality.
That's no the real life !
adding tubes let the lens work out of it's design specifications when it has not be designed for macro use.
Each lens has distances where it works better than others depending on design. These differences can be big with cheaper lenses and narrows with sophisticated floating elements designs. With tubes the results can be weak or fine when the lens has a special switch for use with tubes ( Mamiya Sekor C 80mm f:4 is one, I use it frequemtly on my X cameras)
using a close-up attachment before the lens let work it in its normal range. The resulting image quality depends on:
- the quality of the attachment (only two elements achromatic systems are OK)
-if the lens is at its best distance range used with the attachment

Recently acquired a used 907X (and CFV II 50c & 45p). This is from the first dozen shots. New to HNCS, but encouraging.
I've recently acquired a 907x and 45P. I'm quite happy with it so far (albeit my camera is a bit glitchy and Hasselblad are going to replace it).

I don't think you can post images direct to the forum so, yes, you need a URL. The images don't ned to be hosted on social media but any third party hosting solution would do, provided the hosted file has a permanent URL.
No, you don't need an url. You can upload your images directly to your answer or post. Click on the text in bold that says "Click or drag files here to attach them" under the frame where you enter your text. Choose your image and click upload.
No need for hosted pictures or to have an Url.
