X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: Peli Case - Carry On

I have the Peli Air 1535 with the Trek-Pak inserts which makes its so easy to customise for when I use different bodies and/or lenses.
It is a big case, and I have NEVER flown with it. Why not? A lot of my flights ( Arctic, Antarctica, South Africa) all involve both International and then local flights. International: Carry On for business class is most usually 23kg. No worries there. BUT then the local leg, sometimes its all economy, is much restricted, we've had as little as 6 kg but I'd say 8-10 kg average. Thats quite limiting and that Peli 1535 would be too much. Also, you're not likely to be able to "buy" weight as some have suggested.

X1D/X2D Cameras / Peli Case - Carry On
Last post by pb - May 19, 2024, 09:59:53 PM
Good morning all,

A bit of advice required. I am relatively new to the X system. I have an X2D, 28P & 90V lens. Also still have a Leica M11 with a couple of M lenses. Accessories such as lens cleaner/wipes, filters, etc.

Can anyone advise, based on experience, or recommend the internal size I would be looking at for a carry-on hard case. I plan to have a foam insert.

Many thanks.

If I'm not mistaken that's the filter thread/cap size - not the hood.

Do you know the diameter of the hoods?

Cheers.

Paul

Paul, the diameter of the 28P hood is 85mm. I don't have the other lens.

The hoods are the same diameter but different length. I am using a P28 hood on the 90V.

The Leica S system has some lenses with central shutter (named "CS"), too.

OK, that's right. But unfortunately the Leica S system has been discontinued.

I really liked the concept of the S3.

No it hasn't. There's confirmation from Leica that a S4 will come. We just don't know if it'll be a mirrorless camera that takes the same lenses or needs an adaptor for the current glass. It's likely a couple of years away though.

If one looks at the Leica store site there are almost no lenses available which indicates to me that the mirror less version will use different lenses (maybe just versions of the previous one)

I never check cameras or lenses. I do occasionally have a couple in a jacket pocket to keep the carry on weight in check. Until I'm safely on the plane at least.

Here's a link to the Hasselblad YouTube channel which should be useful.
