X1D/X2D Cameras / X2D and Astrophotography
Last post by pb - May 16, 2024, 11:32:39 PM
Good afternoon all,

Just wondered if anyone has had any experience using the X2D for astrophotography - in particular connecting to a telescope.

Many thanks.

Kind regards,

Paul

I've never dropped a baby or a camera, and straps get in the way. When I do need one for the extra hand it provides, I go sling-type. Blackrapid or Sun-sniper. The latter actually has a lock on the camera connector that prevents it from coming loose unintentionally. I particularly like using them to hold a long lens by the lens foot. Then I can swap out to a wide angle lens and leave the telephoto hanging for easy access.

But all of these introduce extra points of failure, and I don't trust them without a hand on the camera at all times.

You can also attach the lugs of the included strap to (almost) any commercially available strap.

Originally I had planned to use an Eddycam strap for this. I have had good experiences with the wide and long versions on my heavy Nikons.

Good morning,

Thanks for your input. I was hoping for something more like a wrist strap but interesting to go through the Berlebach site.

Quote from: Thyl on May 16, 2024, 07:25:28 AMThe FE lenses do not have a leaf shutter, so the simple answer is no.

The term "auxilliary shutter" came to my mind, since I believe remembering that this shutter (right in front of the film mag) can be used in certain situations (microscopy?). But I found no info on this, and in any way, usability would be drastically limited.

I wonder if it might work with the electronic shutter of an CFV 50II/100c.
It works but only useful with a solid tripod an a subject that does not move during the the readout about .3 seconds.

Because I don't trust the lugs connection, I decided to use a Berlebach Speedy (with the appropriate carrying strap) that I can clamp to the Peidro Arca plate.
