X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: 2 Blue Pixels...

Hi Paul,

Reading your post I did the same, i.e. look at the EVF with the lens cap on. (I never did that in my 6 months of X2D ownership.) I too can see two "dead on" pixels, white in my case. I never noticed them on any of my pictures, though.

To be honest I never gave dead pixels a thought up to now, and probably will keep it that way... I'd expect they are probably easily removed in post if they become annoying?  (Note: I am totally ignorant about post processing techniques beyond the very basic.)

Thanks,
Regards,
Etienne

I don't see there being a global shutter for a 44x33 100 MPIX sensor in the foreseeable future.

I hope that Hasselblad will stick with the leaf shutter. That makes the camera unique. The only alternatives with a leaf shutter are PhaseOne, Leica Q (1, 2, 3) and the Fuji X100 (something). The PhaseOne is in a different price range and the Q and X100 have no option to change lenses.

I asked Hasselblad about it but got an evasive answer.

Kind regards,

Same here! I asked B&H and Hasselblad. HB gave evasive answer, but they responded after B&H told me to return it, which I did.
I just received a replacement (three months later) and it has a similar issue, although less oil, and blades seem to be flatter (the first lens had space between shutter blades).

I also got 28P recently and shutter is pristine clean there too.

Could you upload a photo of your shutter blades?

I am happy with the present speed for landscape but as I am doing a lot of focus stacking 15 images in close to 15 seconds makes it quite challenging in any outdoor use.
I think the real next significant step would be a stacked BSI sensor which would reduce read out speed to a level that the electronic shutter would also work with not only static objects and therefore allow more choices with adapted lenses (or allow Hasselblad to release lighter lenses without shutter). Almost all top FF cameras have or will have this sensor type making now or soon standard shutters obsolete (and in contrast to global shutter with no penalty in image quality like DR). But there is no such development published for MF.

Neither of these options is really any more compelling than they were when the x2d came out.

I can only state my specific use case, but I recently got an x2d after using a 907 kit for a few years. I really contemplated a used x1d2, but I wanted to get off the tripod more so the ibis was a selling point.
The main drawback is that I can't use my release cord - I truly hate using my phone during my photography. But again, this is for off the tripod. The 100 mp is nice, but 50 is plenty. I print fairly large fairly often. The added detail is cool but honestly makes no difference in the real quality of my work which is about seeing the world not reproducing it in the finest detail.

I work with m10 monochromes for a lot of my other work - which print with detail like a 60 mp sensor or better - and really have never felt a great need for over 40 mp. The hassies are nicer for their color and the range and the user experience. Fuji only can touch one of those. I'd even prefer my beater old m10 over the fujis because even it's 24 mp files print great under most conditions - even there my complaint is more about the range than the resolution. Still a great camera tho.

Just like I am not at all interested in an m11 mono or m12 or whatever the x2d seems mature enough to me that whatever future versions come out probably won't be too compelling for me. The 500 c/m was damn good for a damn long while and this seems the digital equivalent in some ways - at least for those of us who just want a good recording device that makes itself disappear. I'm old school but a camera is still basically just exposure and focus and light sensitive substrate to me. Ibis is the only new thing I find really useful.

Exactly the point
50 mp is over the roof and remote cord is essential for shooting on a tripod

It's not essential.
It's also much less a tripod camera with the Ibis.
It would be nice, but it's the only improvement I'd like and it sure won't change a camera just for that. Self timers and phocus mobile are plenty, honestly. I'd like the cord, but whatever.

You can check, there is no "new" sensor in the Sony 100MP cropMF lineup, just the same IMX461 which is used in GFX 100s, 100s II, 100II and X2D, 100C  https://www.sony-semicon.com/en/products/is/camera/index.html

I honestly can't imagine wanting the Hassy to be faster for the sort of thing that it is - I mean I can, but honestly that would suck the fun out of it for me. I already find it more peppy than I'd want to be honest.

People shot 8x10 for years and appreciated the attention it required. There are tools that are plenty fast and we have basically one of the best commercially available imaging tool made in history here; an 8x10 that can be handheld and fire off frame after frame after frame and focus in an instant - the limit is us.
