I've been using magnetic filters for a couple of years. It's the first thing I do with a new lens. Store the multi-million-dollar cap and put on a magnetic ring and cap.

So far, I've had zero issues with any lens of any brand pulling off filters or caps. They do vary a bit. SO another cap might not be quite as *grippy*. You can also use a fingernail to pry the cap off rather than grip and pull. That puts a bit less force on the lens.

X1D/X2D Cameras / Does "pulling" on XCD lens dam...

I just switched to a magnetic filter system, and if I need to remove or change filters, I often have to pull on it with a fair bit of force since the magnetic attraction is quite strong. It's definitely a different force than the screw-on filters I used previously.

And when I try to remove the filters when the camera is powered off, I noticed I can often pull out the front element of the lens a fair bit (because they are external focusing) when removing the filter.

Basically the magnets are so strong that if I pull on the filter to remove it, it also pulls on and eventually "extends" the focusing elements of the lens. Does this damage the lens?

Every camera I've owned with either IBIS or lens stabilization has recommended turning stabilization OFF when on a tripod. It seems the stabilization may "hunt" on it's own if the camera is not moving.  On a monopod I leave stabilization active but always off when on a tripod.

I have been shooting the 907x 50 for about 4 years, virtually all outside in the PNW.  I always assume ZERO splash and mist protection so either keep the camera under my coat or in a backpack if raining or misting at all.
If it's forecast for rain, I take the Leica S (006) which is "safe" as long as I'm not standing under a waterfall.

The MTF charts of the 25V and the 21 are not that different. I expect a good copy of the 25 to be excellent. The 21 certainly is.

I normally edit in Phocus, export as a Tiff, finish in Lightroom and print from Lightroom.  In Lightroom I have a number of presets for paper size and more importantly the borders for the print.

If I don't need to do any more work in Lightroom I was exploring the possibility of printing the fff file directly from Phocus.  However if I choose, for example A2 as my paper size, Phocus automatically fills the entire paper size with the image.  As far as I can tell there is no way to create, again for example, a 1 inch border around the entire image.

Am I missing something or can Phocus only print to the full size of the paper selected?

Quote from: pixelpower on May 24, 2024, 05:45:16 AMI have both systems, although i don't do "street" photography, I have walked around using both for landscape and general outdoor photos. I can tell you based on size and simplicity, the Q3 may be the better choice if you want to do carry around, shoot and go type of work. Plus the Q3 ALWAYS has the right lens on it since it can not be changed. It is smaller, lighter and easier to shoot with 1 hand and generally easier to carry around in my opinion.
Here's a few pics for comparison to my HB and xcd 55 lens.

My experience is with the Q2 which I sold to get the X2D. I realize that the q3 is a different beast in some respects, but in others (like size, weight, lens) it is the same so I can chime in with the caveat that your mileage may vary, as always.

I use the X2D with the 45P most of the time, because it just so happens that the particular FOV is my favorite, while I always found the 28 on the Q a bit too wide for my taste. The combination of X2D+45P in terms of size and weight comes a lot closer to the Leica, so it takes away some of its inherent advantage there. At least in my book.

In terms of simplicity of use, both have simple menus that do not detract from the UX, but I feel that the hasselblad (maybe due to lack of video?) is the simpler of the two. Having said that, they are both lean compared to every other brand, so it comes down to personal choice.

In terms of IQ, the X2D is a class (or two) above. It makes sense too. The Summicron is no slouch and it is coupled to the sensor so IQ is great there too (talking about the Q2 now), but it simply cannot mach the Hasselblad. The Q2 I had was not particularly good in low light either, where the X2D shines.

I subscribe to the dogma "one camera, one lens" and that was the reason I got the Q in the first place or the fact that I use the X2D about 90% of the time with the 45P. However, having the option to have other lenses of stellar quality is only a plus. You may choose to do it or not, but you have the choice.

If for some reason I needed a complement to the X2D for a substantially different experience, I would get one of the last 3 variants of the X100. There, the size-weight advantage is clear (the Leica is a tank!) and it is the quintessential street camera, if that's your thing.

All in all, I find the purchase of X2D and Q3 to be an overkill with minimum (if any) marginal utility. But as I said: YMMV:)

Thinking on ordering one. The MTF charts seem to indicate that it isn't great in the corners, and OK by f5.6. Do you recon it would be nice for landscape & city scape?

For my kind of shooting I find the 21mm a bit too wide, the 30mm a bit too narrow and "near" the 35-75. I do like the separation for close ups that f2.5 would give me. So in theory my kit could become:
- 25
- 35-75
- 80

and the 120 or 135 at some point.
