However, having the option to have other lenses of stellar quality is only a plus. You may choose to do it or not, but you have the choice.

THAT'S my problem. I learned that as "six cameras, fifty lenses".
More like *forty cameras, four hundred lenses*..... :)

A bit of background to the one camera-one lens vs. x cameras and 10x lenses controversy: I LOVE cameras and lenses and that is why I have a collection of cameras dating as back as 1905 and as late as the 00's, BUT using is another story. Nowadays, it is X2D with the 45P (90% of the time), 5% with the 135 (with or without the 1.7x) and 5% a pristine Nikon F3. But all in all, it's the X2D with one lens and everything else is in the collection:) Works for me but ymmv!

Oh, I think we're all on the same page. I use the X2D 99% of the time with a wide prime on it 80% of the time. If I want to feel prepared for anything, I take the 45 and 90 along as well. What's on the shelves, though, is ... terrifying.

The lenses / Re: 28P or 25V?
Last post by dmecham - May 26, 2024, 10:53:12 PM
I do own the 28P and 38V so it isn't an exact comparison.  AF and near silent shutter on both is superb.  I keep my X1Dii set to MF and use back button for AF.  Because of my technique I didn't find the MF clutch to be that useful but that's just me and I sure others will disagree.  There isn't going to be much difference in FOV between 28 and 25.  I really love the smaller size of the 28P and it replaced the 30 I owned.  One difference I do notice is because my 38V is faster I see diffraction creeping in slightly at F11 when the slower F4 28P not until F16.  With the 38 the optimum F stop is 5.6 while the 28 is F8.  The one concern I'd have with the 25V is it's size being twice the size and cost of the 28P.  So it's a personal choice but these are my observations.

Quote from: flash on May 25, 2024, 09:22:31 AMI've been using magnetic filters for a couple of years. It's the first thing I do with a new lens. Store the multi-million-dollar cap and put on a magnetic ring and cap.

So far, I've had zero issues with any lens of any brand pulling off filters or caps. They do vary a bit. SO another cap might not be quite as *grippy*. You can also use a fingernail to pry the cap off rather than grip and pull. That puts a bit less force on the lens.

I can definitely try to fingernail / "pivot" filter off instead of directly pulling on it. But at any rate, if I do pull on it, is this kind of action harmful to the lens?

Gordon

I've had no issues on any lens of any brand. Including every XCD and XCD-V lens made.

X1D/X2D Cameras / Re: x2D Bulb Mode
Last post by flash - May 26, 2024, 10:42:39 AM
Since the camera will meter an exposure for an hour, I have never used the bulb function on any X camera. Just set the exposure time and go with the timer.

Buy and Sell / Trade: 80mm 1.9 for 21mm
Last post by Appmax - May 26, 2024, 07:54:14 AM
I have an 80mm f1.9 lens I would like to swap for a 21mm xcd lens.

The lens is virtually new but does have a small scratch on the exterior barrel (from packing next to my 907x handle).  It is optically perfect and has had very little use.   It comes with the box and all original accessories.
