The matter of tripod stability is lightly discussed in this thread concerning shake over on GetDPI;

https://www.getdpi.com/forum/index.php?threads/2-second-delay-vs-ibis-a-test-of-the-x2d-on-a-tripod.74182/

There's only 2 second delay vs. IBIS in those tests. And the tripod choice is Gitzo 5 vs. Peak Design  :) Somewhat extreme...
In the absence of a remote release, delay is still the best. I should compare 2 seconds vs. 5 seconds on the two tripods.

Ah OK so (approximately): Gitzo 5 @ 2 sec = Peak Design @ 5 sec?

In a controlled environment, they're probably indistinguishable. Testing is really hard and I have great admiration for the folks who do it well. Kasson, Cicala, thecentercolumn. Read them. I'm just messing around.

.... in the mountains: results may vary  ;D

Discussions can only give directions, not recipies.
Each one has to make his own trials with his own gear and repeat it when changing gear.

As Hasselblad enables also us to give a wait time between each stacked frame, there are also trials to do with this. I use a waiting time of 1s between frames. Even when not in MQ mode when stackind the X1D shoots the sequence like MQ (no LV between frames and only the shutter opening and closing

H6 doesn't have in body stacking but was implemented to stacking in tethered Phocus desktop shooting, is this the case with the X2D ?

I guess it's not the camera that has to settle down but the tripod.
Sometimes it's the tripod head or extension column, once I had to change a tripod head after having problems.
Another critical point is soil contact, unless it's a herd soil, only big spikes pushed in the soil give reliable contact.
I've also had permanent lens foot vibrations problems on some Nikon teles, induced by wind, but the Hasselblad X lens collar is more on the stable side (I use it a lot on V and H adapter and X extender).
To sum up, the settle down time can be very variable.
I did try to minimize variances. The tripod head was an Arca Swiss D4. The tripod was a Gitzo GT 1532 with no column extension (first leg extended, but not completely). The tripod and head were leveled. I was on a tile floor. I tried to depress the shutter button as close to the same way each time. So I really tried to eliminate any variances between tests.
But tripod shake is indeed a possible factor which may, considering it from another angle, could introduced by not having a cable release...

That's quite a Heath Robinson affair - Nice one!
It sure is a statement on an elegant tool that's missing out something intrinsic.
Take note Hassy...

I hope that isn't a cracked LCD in your last image :-\
It is certainly an engineer's dream! Rube Goldberg would be proud except for the fact that yours is functional!!
What do you use to keep the cable from scratching the shutter release?
It appears that the battery is accessible; is that right?
Very nice! Taking orders?

fotophil

No my screen is not cracked just a weird reflection! The cable tip does not seem to scratch the shutter button so I don't worry about it! Yes the battery is accessible once I remove the small clamp on the bottom L bracket. Unfortunately the key to this setup is the E-bay cable release bracket designed for a Nikon Coolpix 995. I found the number in one of my early postings on this forum but the item is no longer available on E-bay.
