How official is that? I've heard many rumors from inside sources that are all over the map. For every "the S is dead" there's a "the S4 is coming with all new lenses". I personally believe the former, but I'm curious what your source is.

As mentioned by others, happy with the X2D and XCD lenses; just wishing for lighter weight, but equivalent quality teles and zoom V lenses.

It does raise a question if we didn't own HB, with the latest Fuji announcement, would a new MF photo only buyer go with Fuji or HB given the lenses available?

Clearly there's no comparison in terms of build and user experience, but for practicality, many new buyers might opt for Fuji now?

Same sensor just different color filter arrays.  A lot has been written on Jim Kassons site as to what Fuji really did with the sensor in the GFX100II. Boils down to not that much difference between it and other versions with the same sensor. Much was also written when the GFX100II was released that Fuji had had a completely new 100mp sensor made by Sony. Nothing has ever shown that to be the case and Sony has not mentioned a newer sensor in any of their sensor announcements.

Same with Hasselblad as their color filter array gives a base ISO of 64 inline Fuji's 80.

Sensor itself is excellent but it's been more than likely pushed to its max.

Is there a specific article Jim has written that you can link to? He's written so many exhaustive posts over the years that it may be a big hard to know where to begin

Not as far as I am concerned. Build, user experience and practicality are what attracted me in the HB system in the first place. Within my budget, I much prefer an X2d + 1-2 lenses (I have a 45P and 65) rather than a Fuji GFX with more lenses. GFX are certainly very capable tools, but I could not find any pleasure in using something as big, ugly, clunky and uninspiring. (You guessed- I shoot for fun, not for work.)

As a side note, why Fuji did not put more effort into industrial design of the GFX is a mystery to me, after they created such beautiful cameras as their X (APSC) series.

I remember a report that production of the S3 had ended and rumors that Leica was working on a mirrorless medium format camera.

Somehow that fits in with the current market situation in which almost all manufacturers are unfortunately discontinuing their DSLRs. (Hasselblad is also discontinuing the H6D.) The only ones who are staying true to the mirror, at least in 35mm format, are Pentax. (I don't know whether this is just out of necessity because they missed the trend.) The 645z will probably not have a successor either.

Quote from: Ralf on May 17, 2024, 07:32:44 PMThe only alternatives with a leaf shutter are PhaseOne, Leica Q (1, 2, 3) and the Fuji X100 (something).

The Leica S system has some lenses with central shutter (named "CS"), too.

OK, that's right. But unfortunately the Leica S system has been discontinued.

I really liked the concept of the S3.

No it hasn't. There's confirmation from Leica that a S4 will come. We just don't know if it'll be a mirrorless camera that takes the same lenses or needs an adaptor for the current glass. It's likely a couple of years away though.

If one looks at the Leica store site there are almost no lenses available which indicates to me that the mirror less version will use different lenses (maybe just versions of the previous one)
