16bit RAW @14bit sensor?

There's a simple question, Fuji GFX and X1D has same sensor that provided by Sony, but the Raw data is difference, GFX is 14bit and X1D is 16 bit. But there are some news say Sony sensor only can support 14 bit depth. Anyone can give me an answer for that? Thx, really confused.

From reading Erik Kaffer's X1D tests in Rawdigger, it seems that the chip is 14bit, but Raw processing changes it to 16bit.
