Adjust EV or Levels

I'm working on a batch of images that all need adjustment. While plugging away, it occurred to me that I can use either EV or the highlights slider to set my white point. I'm not aware of why, or if, one is better than the other. Any ideas?

My preference is to use levels. I may be wrong but I think moving EV adjusts all the pixels in the image to the same degree whereas moving the white point in levels has a proportionately greater effect on the right hand side of the histogram.
