Hi guys, somebody here with the H4D40 getting a H3DII-39 afore? Or with experience? I`m interested especially with reference to the high-ISO-noise? Tell me a bit from your real life! ;-o) and the usability fo ISO 800 and 1600 in reality !
Somebody here who make the upgrade from H3DII-39 to H4D60. Tell me something about the diffrence in reference of high-ISO-noise!
Thanks a lot for your thoughts and shown about your knowledge.
salutations, Hörbi

Hi Horbi,  I had a H3D-II/39 and then a H4D/40.

The H4D/40 is more the successor to the H3D-II/31 because it is a crop frame sensor with ISO from 100 to 1600, just like the H3D-II/31 and H4D/31.

The H4D/40 has newer sensor technology compared to the 31 or 39 digital backs.

Compared to the previous generation backs, the H4D/40 provides about one stop better ISO quality. In other words, the H4D/40 at ISO 800 looks like ISO 400 on the previous cameras ... and so on.

FYI: Here is a shot done hand-held @ 1/25th shutter (yes, 1/25th using the mirror delay), 35-90 @ 35/4, H4D/40 at ISO 1600

Yes, i had H3DII39 before and just got H4D-60, and i can tell that i can shoot at ISO 800 without fear, the ISO 400 on my old H3DII was terrible, but ISO 400-800 on H4D is almost fine, i had shots at ISO800 and i can't believe that the noise is way better than ISO400 or ISO200 on H3D.

What post processing did you do or use.?  I tried Phocus and it's not bad, but I can't get as clean as yours with just Phocus.   They look good until you zoom in a bit.   I'm using   H4D 40.

Hi Richard,

I think I used Lightroom 3.3 for the above image ... What I do not remember is whether I used Phocus with DAC corrections processed out to a Tiff, then added it to the LR library of other images shot while on this trip. I suspect it was straight into Lightroom because it wasn't a commercial shoot where color is of key importance ... LR 3.3/3.4 has really improved the noise control, and I like the selective tools for local adjustments.

It's what I thought.   I got better resultls with noisejinja also.  Thanks for the reply
