IPad Apps

At the very least I'd like to see Hasselblad come up with an iPad app that duplicates what we see on the back of our cameras so we can better discern the results of a capture and what rating to give it.

A tether app would be nice too!

First off note that resolution aside, ipad apps are the same as iphone apps. As the iPad has no firewire I guess we would need a wireless module on the camera to send previews to the iPad... Art directors would love it..

Hi,

Peter's idea of an app (for both iPhone and iPad) which displays the jpg preview of shots would be pretty great and not require any additional hardware. This could work with a camera tethered to Phocus running on a Mac/Pc, then the iPhone app connects to Phocus (via wifi).
Added points if you could control the camera / fire the shutter / liveview from the iPhone.

I understand (from a comment on LL) that the ipad reads all camera formats that are accepted by Mac OSX (for Aperture, iphoto, etc.).
So I can input my Leica M8 images diectly from the camera into the ipad.
But not, I guess, H3D images.  Presumably they have to go through Phocus.
Or have I missed a solution?

If 3FR, in theory it should work as these can be viewed by iPhoto.

Apple sadly only have SD memory card reader accessories for the iPad, not CF. But you could probably plug a USB CF card reader into the USB adapter on the iPad and import images from the Hasselblad CF card.
seems a stretch, but it might work!

I like the idea of an iPad/iPhone app too, but a new cable would have to be developed to connect the FW800 port on the back to the iPhone/iPad terminal in the bae of the iPad/iPhone (like the USB to iPhone connector you get with the phone) - but I've no idea whether it's technically possible.  If it were, it would be less fuss than WiF, surely - sending stuff from the Mac to an iPhone needs a WiFi server doesn't it, but the beauty of using a cable between the iPhone/iPad and DB would mean not having to carry a computer around too..... But I'm not a techie, so it might not be possible!

Not quite what you are asking but I posted some thoughts on the iPad as a viewer here:

Thanks David,

I have just checked and can confirm that iPhoto does read Hasselblad files.
I imported two files of iphotos shot this morning into iphoto.
The first was a 3FR image from a card, via a card reader.
The second was an fff captured in tehered mode on my MacBook Pro.
Both 65MB files went into iPhoto without difficulty, although rather showly.
So the good news is that one should be able to import H3D files into an iPad without using Phocus,
provided one is prepared to take the card out of the camera and use a card reader.
I might buy an iPad as a field viewing device.
More convenient that the 17inch MacBook, which I shall reserve for Phocus, including tilt-shift focusing in tethered mode.

I wrote a little bit about the ipad and flash at the end of this article back in feb:

Interesting that Steve's thoughts on flash are linked right on the front page of Apple.com

I just saw that leaf capture has come out with a ipad app

Hope Hassy can come out with a similar app

Little late to the party, but man, this would be awesome if you could use a secondary window in PHOCUS to purely be a live view screen and wifi it to the Ipad. Man... what i combo that'd be.

So i got this working for about 2 days in a row, then one day, my ipad suddenly wouldn't recognize the AirDisplay application was being run and would't connect. Grrrr.

Was working fine when i first started it, i'll need to investigate again.
