Question
Does everyone just use the Hasselblad remote cable shutter release or do they use a aftermarket remote

I have used a variety of generic releases without problem.  I think that the Canon connection is identical to the Hasselblad one.

I can confirm. I have used the canon release on my H3D without problem

Yes on the Amazon page it was E3.  I bought a compatible one with a slightly different suffix.

I found the original item on Ebay (bought in 2016)

Canon uses two different plugs, depending whether it is a low end or a higher end SLR. The low end one is a 2.5mm jack, which is also the connection used on H1-H6D cameras. Personally, I use a no-name Chinese remote and it works just fine.
The only problem is that Canon and that no-name remote use an angled connector which is slightly less easy to grab out of its socket than the straight connector on the official remote.
