A Quick Tip: one of the few new advantages of upgrading to the macOS Mojave is that it now lets you use an eGPU with your MacBook Pro.  If you haven't upgraded yet, well, get excited... get very excited, cause the results are something to gasp about, and you won't break the bank doing it.  Dependent of course on how 'Bad' is the GPU card you're getting.

If you're on a later model MacBook Pro with a Thunderbolt 3, then I would highly recommend getting the Akitio enclosure along with a power source suitable to the GPU card you plan on purchasing.  I personally splurged and got the AMD 64 Vega.

Actually, I'm pretty happy with Mojave even on older hardware (Macbook Pro Retina 2012). The upgrade freed up about 70GB on my SSD, seems a lot more responsive, and the system runs cooler as well. They said they were going to concentrate on performance and reliability, and so far that seems to be the case.

I forgot to mention, Any MacBook, it doesn't have to be a Thunderbolt 3.  particularly older ones, like my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7.  the results are out of this world.  It was either this or a whole new iMac Pro, and now I can put my money towards something else.

Even in the case of Akitio, just use a Thunderbolt Adapter and keep this one as a future-proof item for future upgrades.

I know you think yours is good still, but you have no idea what this thing can open up for you without having to overhaul or chunk your older system.
