503 Winder has come off

The manual winder (original part) of my 503 has come off and will not re-attach. I can't see an actual fault with it, but when I attempt to put it back on after having used the powered winder for a while it will not reconnect, and just falls off, the small mental tab that seems to need to be clicked into position does not hold it's position when locked in.

Any ideas?

I'm in New York and have tried a few places for repair but all seem clueless or their repair process is a very high flat fee (over $200) and has to be sent away for weeks. Does anyone know of somewhere better to go here?
