Anthony in Hasselblad Techical Services returned my phone call and offered a couple of good points about the X1d.  Updating a new  or un-updatd X1d can be done by using only the latest firmware update instead of doing them all.  Second point from Anthony is that the camera is designed to dissipate the heat through bottom of the camera in order to protect the sensor.  I did not know this.

When updating the firmware in Hasselblad D1X, after the upgrade has finished, instructions at #13 says to remove and reinsert the battery and restart the camera. Should one turn off the camera before taking the battery out or after taking the battery out?

Do NOT turn off the camera first. Just take the battery out while the camera is still on, reinsert the battery, and then start up the camera again.

I never turn the camera off, just drop the battery out and reinsert like the instruction says. This probably allows the camera to flush out its memory.

Welcome Susan. Just remember the camera model name - it's X1D, not D1X.  ;)
