I just received the XH adapter and tested all of my older lenses on the X1D.....only my 24mm lens worked...the other lenses  (35,50,80,100,150,300) caused the camera to report that no lens was attached.... The other issue with the 24mm lens was that focus peaking did work but auto zoom did not. I'd be interested to hear about other peoples experiences. I spoke to Eric Peterson and he is looking into this issue.

Hi,
Can I check what is the firmware version of your camera? Firmware notes say that it needs to be minimum 1.15.0.
Thanks.

(I have an XH adapter on order too...since October last year...)

David Rosenzweig

The camera is on the latest firmware...1.17.0

David Rosenzweig

Even I can't believe this but here's the update....I received an email from Eric Peterson at Hasselblad who asked for the serial numbers and firmware rev of the lenses that did not work...I used my H4X camera to retrieve that information and then did a final test to confirm that these lenses did not work with the X1D...in each case the camera now recognized the lens......AutoZoom did not work but Focus Peaking was OK.
The only change I made was to read the firmware on the lens which I wouldn't expect to have any impact but all lenses  now work with the X1D.

The "no lens" error usually comes up when there's not a good connection between body/lens I'm guessing first time round they didn't quite click into place...

I did a bit of testing over the weekend with my H series 50mmII, 80mm, 100mm, 150mm, 210m and 300mm lenses on the X1D. I shot the 50mmII, the 80mm and 100mm lenses side by side with the X1D 45mm and 90mm lenses. A few, preliminary comments.
1. My tests confirmed for me just how good the X1D lenses are. While the HC50mmII lens is, to me, the best of the H series lenses I have ever used, the 45mm X1D lens outperforms it in the corners. Very close in the center.  The 90mm X1D lens is way better on the X1D than the 80mm or the 100mm H series lenses.
2. The 150mm, the 210mm and the 300mm H lenses are very good with the X1D. Based upon what I see from the XCD lenses released so far, I expect that the XCD equivalents, when they ultimately are released, will outperform them, but it is great having these H series lenses available now to fill out the system.
3. The X1D firmware has not been updated yet to allow AF with the H series lenses. That is supposedly coming. However, focus peaking and magnified live view ARE available and work well.
4. The 210mm lens should be used with a lens collar for the XH Adapter, but Hasselblad, inexplicably, did not ship the adapter with one. Strange. An aftermarket one is available from ppl.de in Germany. The 300mm lens has a collar built into it. Here is a photo showing it with a RRS plate on the foot. The 300m lens is a 240mm equivalent in FF 35mm.
5. Both focus peaking and magnified live view worked fine with my HC lenses. However, because AF does not presently work with the HC lenses, it appears that there is no way to select the focus point in magnified live view. I had to move the camera to get the live view focus where I wanted it.
6. Nick is right about the need to be sure that the adapter and the HC lenses are properly connected. A couple of times got errors but they cleared when I checked the connection.

Correction on #5. If you activate magnified live view focusing by pressing the * Soft Button, you can use your finger on the LCD to move around the area that is magnified. It's a kludge, but better than nothing.

David,

Thanks for sending us the serial numbers and firmware versions of your lenses. I'm glad that the Auto-Zoom and Focus Peaking are each now working; I look forward to informing you when AF using the XH adapter is available.

I've not been able to get Auto Zoom to work with any of my older Hasselblad lenses...although Focus Peaking does work ....for those who have found that Auto Zoom does work with your older lenses could you comment on the firmware rev of those lenses and action you've taken to get that function work( if any other than selecting Auto Zoom)

It doesn't work by just putting it into MF and turning the focus ring. You have to invoke it by pressing the middle soft button next to the LCD screen.

David Rosenzweig

Howard...thank you so much...worked perfectly.

Your welcome. I actually don't know why it doesn't work just by turning the focusing ring, but it must have something to do with the fact that the HC lenses are not focus by wire.

David,

The issue you're experiencing will be resolved with a future firmware update. The update will be possible for existing HC/HCD lenses with firmware version 1.18.0 and those produced from approximately 2013 forward.

That's just great.  All of my HC/HCD lenses were purchased before 2013.  Sad.

What t will be resolved by 1.18? That turning the focusing ring in MF does not invoke magnified live view? That there is no AF?
Can you give us a heads up on the new features you HOPE to include in 1.18?
Thanks.

Greg

Since the adapter, so far, does nothing outside what is internal to the camera, what took it so long to come to market?  And, B&H and Dodd haven't begun to receive shipments yet, so I am assuming it has not been released by Hasselblad.
