Power over Firewire

Hi folks
I often use my H4D-Back with a Linhof Field-Camera. Until now I'm shooting theathered with the Laptop. But I'd like to use the Back without Laptop, just shooting on a CF-Card. For that reason I'd like to plug-in the firewire 800 cable just on a battery. Like the Laptop gives just power when phocus is not running. The Camera-System runs with 7.2V. Firewire delivers I think 8-30V. My question: Can I connect (selfmade-connection) the H4D-camera-battery to the firewire-cable (pin 6 ground, pin 8 power up to 30V)? What do you think? I' don't want to kill the back, ...of course!
cheers

Hi BZB and welcome
i can't advise you on the do-it-yourself approach but for USD 125 you could get one of these:

Forget about this Item... There's too less power for the HD-50Mio-Back! Its switching of every shot you take. Not working!!!
I've testet two different Units, both fully loaded and attached with a very short cable (15cm). (Support from the dealer is also very bad).
too bad...

Surely you need a CF back which has a separate power unit to allow it to be used on a Linhof? Why on earth would you need to mount your 50 back on a Linhof in the first place? I cannot think of one example that would justify that.

Ben is correct, the HD+ Firewire power will only power the digital back until the unit runs out of energy - we have seen results varying from 30 minutes to over a few hours.
Hasselblad has confirmed the voltage requirements for the digital back is in excess of the constant power from the HD+, however, this is the only commercially available Firewire power supply beyond the kits made at home from Li-Ion battery supplies.
As far as the "Bad Service" comment, we make sure that our clients know the extent of the HD+ capability and have offered in every case - a full refund upon return of the HD+ kit.
Ben is no different from any other customer, and I have personally told him that his satisfaction is paramount (and have the emails to support these statements.) At this point, the units have not been returned, so I am not sure what to make of the comment above.
Excellent service is hard to find, and we take an exceptional amount of care to deliver the best client experience possible - even when the going gets tough. It's how I would like to be treated if the tables were turned.

Actually I returned the items and got the money back. So far so good. Thanks!
About the "Bad Service" comment.
1. The HD+ Firewire power does't work with the HD-50 Back. Seems, there was no testing...
2. One of the two HD+ was probably used, ore elsewise not in new conditions (little scratches and staind).
3. Never saw such enormous shipping coasts (70$) and duties (40$ for eatch item, for what? for european customers it's uncommon, just asked...) for two little batterypacks. Asked for alt shipping and about the duties, no explantation.
4. Wrong Price in the Bill. Asked twice for correction...
Still got no power...

Hi
You can take any battery pack like Power Gorilla or the ones from Energizer, provided they give you the voltage,
take a FW cable and fix the plug on side to fit the pack (black and white cable inside).
I have done that posted pictures on this site.
