I have a h3d2 39mp, but I was wondering is there anyway to have
live view without tethering ?  If not, would a netbook be suffient to
run phocus and give me live view ?  (is there a netbook with firewire ?)

I'm afraid the answer is no and no.. You might be able to run Flexcolor on a netbook but not Phocus.
