Hi gang.

I am looking into buying a used Hasselblad H3D 39.
Is there a big difference quality wise between the older (now
discontinued) H3D 39 vs. H3DII 39?
Comparing them online on the Hasselblad site I can see that the newer
version has a faster burst rate, larger display (3 inch TFT vs. 2.2
inch OLED) and wider ISO range. I doesn't say if its the same sensor
or any quality difference in the files regarding D-range or noise
suppression etc. Has anyone used them both?

Best

The main difference is there is no Fan in the H3d-II. So no noise when solently workin Grin but also no more moving parts that might break down. I have had both and image quality is stunning. I now only have a H3d-II 39Mp multishot version but i want to sell that for buying some more pixels ;-)). (less than 5000 exposures, as new in other words, 13000 euro).
The lenscoorections in flexcolor and Phocos do a remarkable job, absolutely perfect images without fringing ( not grayed out like in photoshop but calculated out of the image) or distortion.

I was tol;d they both use the same sensor, but the H3DII has a different filter on the back.

I think that the II also fixed an issue shooting indoors with mixed lighting, but as a landscape photographer, it never worried me. I have owned both. As far as IQ goes, they are the same from my experience.

I think both The version 1 or 2 are at the moment the best investements a photographer can do. With a good H3dI-39 for about 6500 euro, a version2 for 8500 euro and a multishot system for 13000 there is no match from any other brand: not in image quality and certainely not price wise. I only use Multishot in studio, 99 percent with my 528c because it gives such great neat but relatively small( read easy to handle but large enough for 99/100 in use) files. If you want total freedom and best image quality for a decent price, get a H3dII-39Mp ( hey, i still have mine up for sale...just kidding) or any other H3d camera. Differences with newer and more expensive camera's are very small, if noticible at all in print. I must admit that image quality between my 1DsMk3 and my H3d-31 on the other hand is gigantic when shooting outside in uncontrolled environnements. When comparing RAW images from both cameras, the hassie files look like having HDR applied in comparison to the canon files.

You are right the 39 represents fantastic value but the H4 does have true focus which I am finding an excellent addition. By experience I would say that I had problems focussing about 20% of the time with my H3D 39 but now this is down to 5% maybe 2%.
