as to which digital back(s) are compatible with
the Hassy 501 CM?

CFV CFVII and CF (plus the old ixpress backs which are great value for money).

I use a Phase One (P1) digital back with my 500 C/M and it functions perfectly.
I would think that they will be fine with your 501 as well.
